what a beautiful album... what passion and intelligence... what musicality. in the late 70's thru the 80's, while vain and talentless people like steven tyler were roaming on the american stage screaming for attention, like a child: below the border in mexico adult men and women performers and superb songwriters like ana gabriel and marcos antonio solis, who along with their good looks were performing with humility and with an arsenal of superbly written songs, performed with absolute perfect vocal beauty and what seems limitless talent.
please read 'Robertchica' review on this amazon review page for a real thorough breakdown of these songs; where the styles come from, etc. he or she know what they are talking about. this album release is fantastic from the first note to the last. you may produce a tear or two from your own memories, brought on by the splendid writing and singing of marcos antonio solis. what a voice. some believe he is the best male voice of mexico. whether he is or not, you ask anyone from below the border, anywhere in mexico to remote villages in michoacan or cities in sinaloa; everyone knows who he is. marco antonio solis, since the days of 'los bukis', the solis band of this era in which this music came; has sold over 80 million records and written over 300 songs. a great mexican artist he is; from michoacan.
i saw los bukis, on one of their very last live performances, in nogales sonora, in the early 90's. it was open air stadium where you could drink beer freely and approach the stage very close and experience the band on an intimate level. try that in america and see what happens. los bukis, with marco antonio singing with his magnificent voice played three hours non-stop... a lucky gringo i was, indeed... and 'accepto mi derrota' you tyler fans. mz
