This CD is a joke! Luther already has like 5 or 6 'Greatest Hits' collections out already. He already put out a greatest hits CD in 1999.

Luther Vandross is an incredible and I love these song on here but this collection is just another cash in on his fanbase.

This CD is everything I already have! End of Story!

I will agree with the masses that Luther Vandross is a pleasing singer. He actually sings his songs rather than wails them like so many other soulful artists particularly Whitney Houston. In addition, Luther had the good sense to emply some talented background vocalists as well.

However as the songs go, its really a hit and miss affair. Nothing really offends me greatly on here but for the most part the hooks are just not captivating. A great exception is the cover of Love The One Your With as the gospel oriented arrangment really gets you in a feel good move. Easily the best track on this collection and why in the world is it last on here? Till My Baby Comes Home, Power of Love, and Stop To Love are decent as well.

However, the arrangements are way too synthesizer heavy. Looking at the musical credits, it seems like five musicians contributed those oh so annoying effects on this compilation. This unnatural effect combined with the over use of strings(more synthesizer?)really bring down many of the songs particularly the otherwise memorable Superstar.

Truthfully, I would like to hear Luther Vandross sing more jazz oriented songs. His style is not that far removed from the more melodic and natural sounding George Benson. If any Amazon[.com] readers know of a Luther Vandors collection where he contributes more jazz based tunes, I am all ears. The man can certainly sing. Its the arrangemnts that spoil it for me.

WITH OUT A DOUBT HE IS STILL THE ONE AND ONLY . THE ONE I ALWAYS LISTEN TO WHEN I WITH SOMEONE SPECIAL.

Why is Columbia/Sony releasing all of these Luther Vandross compilations ?? This is tired & redundant, and fans shouldn't be bombarded with these CDs because Luther left Sony!! REAL Luther fans should ignore this CD (as well as The Greatest His, Always & Forever-The Classics, Super Hits, One Night With You-The Best Of Luther, Vol.2, Love Songs, and it goes on & on!!). If you really want the best of Luther, make your own CDs, so that your favorite songs are included in the order you want!!

P.S.Also ignore the NEW 'remastered editions' of Luther's earlier CDs!! There's NOTHING new or unreleased on those CDs either!!

this CD is slamming. luther is just like wine...he gets better with time. i love if this world were mines. i can close my eyes and listen to it over and over and over agian.
