Review - Amazon.com :
Luis Miguel is to be admired for his steadfast homage to the classic Mexican bolero, the romantic ballad that emerged in the 1950s. Over the course of 10 years, he produced four albums of bolero remakes, and introduced them to new generations of music fans. But enough was enough. With 33, Luis Miguel returns to the torchy pop ballads that were his forte before his bolero phase. It's good to report that Miguel is in great shape. He plumbs emotional depths on the classy "Un Te Amo," where a lover appreciates small blessings, and "Devuelveme el Amor," on visiting old friends, solitude, and desperation. But it's not all gloomy. Dance fun is evoked on "Te Necesito," with its fingersnapping beats and backing vocals by Take 6, and "Con Tus Besos," with its thrilling big horns, crisp percussions, and energetic singalong choruses. Production values are excellent throughout, and Luis Miguel's vocals are full, strong, and emotive. Songwriters include Armando Manzanero, Juan Luis Guerra, and Kike Santander. This 11-track CD is convincing proof that even at 33, Luis Miguel is still at the top of his game. --Ramiro Burr

- El Sol de Mexico
If you are a LuisMi fan than you will probably like this CD; if not than you will probably bash it and say it is no good. Somewhere in between lies the real answear. Is it good? Yes. Is it great? No. Is it better than most of the romantic pop Latin music out there ? Yes. You must understand that LuisMi employs the best people to produce his music and the results are top notch productions. First of, it was nice last summer to see a release from him where romance wasn't in the title. I bought it up thinking he's moved on; after listening to the opening track, "Un Te Amo' I quickly realized the formula was still being used. It is a departure of sorts but a full circle anology might make more sense. This is the closest CD that he has released that has the pop luster of his wonderful disc entitled "Aries." This is clearly evident on the second track entitled "Con tus Besos" where the uptempo pop stylings of "Aries" come through like a flashback. About half of the songs are in the pop vein and the rest are more "Romances " like tunes. Some of the songs are just too gushy. Also some of them lament a lost love way too much which is an ongoing theme running throughout this disc. Don't get me wrong the lyrics to the boleros are by and large quite poetic and beautiful but some are just too sappy. On "Ahorra Que Te Vas" where he states "si algun dia te vas al mar recuerdate de mi" (if someday you go to the ocean remember me) everything is fine until the syruppy lyrics go on to say later "llorandote en mi almohada pienso en ti"(crying over you on my pillow thinking of you). Come on!! Crying on your pilow? Was he biting it too? Was he on his stomach and kicking his feet too? Guys don't cry in bed over women. None that I know anyway. Sorry ladies even LuisMi wouldn't do that. Anyway this is the type of corniness that goes way beyond the sesitive male and makes for a drippy song. Back to the good stuff though. The popish formula of songs like "Vuelve, " Eres " and "Con Tus Besos" are uplifting , in spite of their melancholy theme, with their fine chorus and strong arrangements that gets you going with their lush jazzy and orchestral backing. Overall this is not his best by his standards but pretty darn good anyway. A three star LuisMi disc is a four star disc for most other artists in this genre. If you are a die hard fan get it, otherwise try "Aries" or one of the gazillion "Romances" discs to see if this is for you.

- Not His Best
Normally, I would be listening to his new music until I've worn a spot in the CD. Not this time...I will always buy LuisMi's music because like the majority of the reviewers here who gave this CD a flawless review, I am devoted to the impeccable quality of his voice and have been for nearly 15 years. However, I am not blinded by my own loyalties that I would give this CD 5 stars simply because he has a great voice or because I'm star struck. I have to be honest as this is NOT his best work by any means. The melodies lack originality from previous music and while one can argue that this is his style, there is clearly no effort to improve on what has made him so successful so far, but rather, a clear effort to simply coast on large record sales and guaranteed packed auditoriums. Those of us who truly love the way he interpreted music back in the days of 20 años and Aries yearn to experience this artist's growth -particularly if he is calling himself a producer. I'm afraid this one sounds just like the last two he produced with no variation on instrumentation and no experimentation either. But since he draws huge crowds, why should he change a thing? That's where I believe he is failing in his artistry. If he would only swap out that set of keys for the elegance of a piano - just to give an example - he might draw in a different set of ears.
