Review - Amazon.com :
Leave the daddy-daughter dynamics for People magazine to dissect, but one thing's for sure: with Coming Home, Lionel Richie may divebomb the spotlight so completely that daughter Nicole ends up a shadowy speck in the celebrity haze. Unlike virtually every other high-profile R&B record to arrive in recent years, Coming Home resists the temptation to lean back, even a little, on its dazzled-up list of collaborators, Jermaine Dupri, Raphael Saadiq, and Dallas Austin among them. Hot beats abound, especially on the dancefloor-ready "Up All Night," first single "I Call it Love," and "Why," but the overall vibe is pure Lionel, from the Commodores-esque "What You Are" to the "Penny Lover"-like prettiness of "Coming Home," to the wavy steel-guitar-laced lament that is "Outta My Head." Here are hooks that sink in instantly and vocals that float as if grafted to a bar of Ivory soap. Here, too, is a record unafraid of reaching artistically; if 2004's Just For You was dominated by classy but predictable ballads, Coming Home represents Mr. Richie as the trailblazing musical titan generations of fans fell in love by. Turn the volume up to 11 and make room on the couch--a hotter homecoming won't happen this year. --Tammy La Gorce

- For the odd middle-aged romantic
I think it's fair to say that Lionel's best days are behind him, he no longer dances on the ceiling, and his Friday and Saturday nights are probably as easy as his Sunday mornings.

But in all honesty, the break he's had has clearly brought in a modest hunger towards his appetite for music, bringing his r'n'b styled music to the 21st Century.

His voice still sounds as soulful as always, but one criticism is that there appears to be a huge influx of backing singers, sometimes masking the man you'd want to hear.

It lacks the edge that some artists have when releasing new material after a period out of the game. It's clear that it's Lionel Richie from the start, he has his trademark sound has not wanted to shake that away.

Granted, this style from the '80s has got him to where he stands today, but is this style enough to please people who buy records today?

Despite not really branching out to the iPod generation, I feel that lifelong fans will probably like this record, and the odd middle-aged romantic, hoping for a touch of the latter days Richie.

It'll probably do well in the album charts, but if it was released just before Mother's Day, it would sell a lot more.

- it's aight
huge Lionel Richie Fan. this Man could always write strong bridges&always under the ability to make Simplicity a Art. very crafty songwriter,Musician&Vocalist. it's been years since he has made a Album that I was knocked out by. 20 years ago with his 'Dancing on the Celing" he was still in his Artistic Peak′ though that album 20 years back was hit&miss as well. "I call it Love" is done by the same Producers behind Ne Yo's hit song"So Sick" which fits Lionel's Vocals like a Glove. but this album doesn't enhance or take Lionel any place that he hasn't already been, but it just shows that he can stay modern. he did what he wanted with making a modern album,it's safe&fairly predictable&there is no shame in that, but Lionel Richie is better than that.He still sounds Good Vocally&can still write&knows a Hit.

- Always a hit!
After seeing the Coming Home song on one of the morning shows, I knew I needed to buy this CD for my husband who was coming home from Afghanistan.

As always with Lionel Richie, I was not disappointed in all the music.

- Coming Home
This is the first Lionel Richie album I've bought in a long time and I bought it because of how much I enjoy the lead single, I CALL IT LOVE -although listening to it with headphones, the production & backing vocals kind of drown Lionel out it was still nice to see him chart again with such a pleasant mid tempo song.

The other tracks that I really enjoy are: SWEET VACATION; WHAT YOU ARE; I LOVE YOU; OUT OF MY HEAD & UP ALL NIGHT.

I think that the producers Lionel worked with successfully managed to contemporize songs without totally selling out his image by having guest rappers on the track to appeal to a much younger crowd. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised by the number of tracks I did like and would recommend this disc to Lionel's fans.

- Lionel Is Back...Better then Ever!
Thank you, Lionel Richie for this fantastic album! I haven't bought a CD where I love every single song on it. We have lost some of our best R&B/Soul singers in the past few years (Barry White, Ray Charles, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye)...Lionel steps back into the spotlight confidently filling their shoes. This is of the caliber of music that put Lionel Richie at the top of charts back in the 80's. My favorite cuts are "Sweet Vacation", "I Love You", "I Call It Love", and "Reason to Believe". Don't hesitate in getting this CD...It's a winner!
