- Lil Flip - I Need Mine
Lil Flip's (A.K.A. Wesley Eric Weston, Jr) latest release is the double album "I Need Mine" (2007). Houston's Lil Flip has been working on the quantity over quality formula for awile now, and this album is no different. Thirty seven track's long (including the cheezy skits) with guest appearances from Rick Ross, Lyfe Jennings, Chamillionaire, Big Pokey, Lil'Keke, Mya, Mike Jones, Robin Andre, Z-Ro, Squad Up, MJG, Nate Dogg, Big Shasta, Yukmouth, Collie Buddz, Three Six Mafia, C-Note, D-Red, Mannie Fresh & UGK. Lil Flip delivers a few standouts on disc one with track's like the first single "Ghetto Mindstate" which features some outstanding singing from talented singer Lyfe Jennings, takes his audience on a journey on "Find My Way" feat. Robin Andre,while delivering an upbeat track for the strong "Single Mother". Incarcerated Rapper Z-Ro makes an appearance on "Sorry Lil Mama", while Nate Dogg laces "Take You There" with a trademark chorus. Lil Flip delivers another decent track with "We Go Make It Out Da Hood", while teaming up with Rap Veterans Yukmouth "Stay Ballin" & Three Six Mafia on "3,2,1 Go!". It's easy to breeze through this release because Lil Flip delivers a lot of cliche below average lyrics, and subpar material - some of the guest appearances help (EG Lyfe Jennings) while others bring the album down. "I Need Mine" is not a release worth adding to the collection.

- Flip, Quit Releasing Your Outtakes {1 ½ Stars}
I can't remember the last time Flip dropped an album that wasn't a certified drink coaster. If Crime Knob didn't exist, this would EASILY be the worst rap release of 2007. You know something is wrong when I Mike Jones makes more than one appearance. Thank god I DJ and get albums like this for free. I mean, how can you listen to the rhymes on songs like "White Cup" or "Warrior" and call this a hot album? And even if you bought this for the beats, you have to admit that joints like "Play 4 Life", "Family Tradition", and "Hustle" are as wack as wack gets. This isn't even a hard album. I know some of you clowns try to hide behind that "hard" thing when you call this a classic, but he's afraid to mention TI's name on "Bustaclip" and he sampled Heavy D's "Nuthin' But Love" on "Flippin" -- yeah, that's real gangsta right there. The most ironic point of the album is when Flip unintentionally describes himself as what's wrong with hip hop on "Real Hip Hop". Flip is a clown and if you think this is hard, tight, or whatever, then you're either a minor or you need to ease up on the codeine/promethazine (look it up) & Sprite and clean your ears out.

There are maybe one or two tracks on both discs each that aren't absolutely terrible. "What It Do" features Mannie Fresh on the beat (the best beat on the whole album). "3,2,1, Go" has Three 6 Mafia on it and I'm a fan, so I dig that one. "Ghetto Mindstate (Can't Get Away)" stinks lyrically, but Lyfe Jennings provides a decent hook and "Addicted (Mary Jane)" has a decent beat. But nothing on the album stands out...not even the songs listed in this paragraph.

I Need Mine $$ is a godawful release from one of the worst acts to come out of the south. The lyrics are elementary and the songs are about the same thing every "thug of the week" is rapping about. You can only spin that so many ways and Flip isn't even trying to spin it anymore. He's just plain lazy. On a seperate note, could someone PLEASE explain to me what makes him the freestyle king? I'd imagine he'd have to be freestyling on every song he makes because I can't imagine anyone sitting down and putting thought into writing lyrics like these. I recommend siiting your drinks on this overpriced drink coaster. Don't even download it -- it's that bad.

Man I can't believe that this is a double disc!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean how much trash do you want to pour on a person at one time? I thought it was going to be too overwhelming for me to diss the whole album but I think I can handle it. This album is wack from the minstrel show cover art, all the way down to the credits in the album cover. Lets run down the list:

beats: wack
lyrics:wack
subject matter: wack
Style and appearance: ultra wack
delivery: wack

Shall I go on?
This album makes feel I took a dump and didn't wipe up. Man it itches.

- Same ole, same ole
I haven't been able to get through one of his albums yet. I'm so burnt out on Dr. Seuss rhyming (using the very first word that rhymes and makes sense with the word before it and even worse repeating the same word when he can't find one to rhyme), but Lil' Flip was on "Beef" and he sounded so intelligent. He'd said in magazines that it was easy to use multisyllabics and rhyme deeper. So, I listened to this album on a music site to see if he'd done so. There were a couple of songs like "Single Mother" and "Find My Way." But overall, still the same weak rhymes, talking about weed, challenging gossipers (why do you care? Just ignore them), cars, and a billion references to how much money he makes. Pretty much all of this album sounds like an audio commercial for who is a good prospect to rob, especially that terribly offbeat song "Can't U Tell." I'm so confused though because he said we need more lyricists like Common and Kanye, so why not be one of those lyricists? He completely blew me when he said he was like Jay-Z, remembering rhymes or not, he's not even close. I'm glad dude is rhyming about putting money back into the community though.
