Review - Amazon.com :
This is a collection of LeAnn Rimes's favorite country standards, plus one newly written hit, "Big Deal." Say what you will about this woman-child--yes, she really needs direction (the 11 remakes couldn't be more obvious choices) and a producer besides her dad. But she's slowly growing into her own style, which here falls somewhere between Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, and Tammy Wynette. Especially Patsy. Her timing on "Crazy" is quirky enough to offset the ham-fisted arrangement, and she's not bad on "I Fall to Pieces," either; her efforts on "She's Got You," "Leavin' on Your Mind," and "Faded Love" (a Bob Wills song Cline cut) fall short. She also chooses "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "Lovesick Blues," two songs identified with Hank Williams that Cline recorded, and sings the latter like she knows what it means. The wanna-rock "Me and Bobby McGee" is a travesty, but at least she gets to act her age, sort of, on "Big Deal." --John Morthland Customer review - 1999-11-23
- A tour de forceSo LeAnn Rimes was influenced by Patsy Cline? What's the problem? Patsy Cline was influenced by the Kay Starr records she collected. Patsy's love of Hank Williams and yodeling led to Patsy's "Honky Tonk Blues." And the Bee Gees grew up listening to the Mills Brothers. And the Beach Boys studied the charts of the Four Freshmen. And Billie Holiday listened to Louie Armstrong. This tribute album by Miss Rimes is performed to perfection. How she has grown in two years. While one can always hear the influence of Patsy, the LeAnn nuances are sprinkled liberally here and there, as she makes each song her own and exerts magnificent control over her phrasing. (The only thing that keeps it from five stars is "Me and Bobby McGee," a great Janis Joplin song -- a LeAnn Rimes song, not. So skip over it, but treasure the rest -- and tap your feet and sing along. This kid has "it.")

- LeAnn pays tribute....and does it well!Numerous reviewers have complained because this is a CD of, primarily remakes. If you bought this CD and didn't read the list of songs, you have no one to blame but yourself...If on the other hand you bought LeAnn's self titled CD and didn't recognize the song titles...then, you are no long-term country fan and probably don't know these songs for the excellent country traditions they are! I also don't understand why so much comparison is made to Patsy Cline...LeAnn does as good a job as any singer I've ever heard (Ever hear Loretta Lynn's tribute to Patsy? I love Loretta...but, come on!)I think LeAnn does an admirable job at almost every cover, with the exception of the old Janis Joplin standard, Kristopherson's, "Me and Bobby McGee" and let's face it, those are pretty hard hippy boots to fill! But, in general, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of this CD. If you like Patsy, Hank, Marty, Bob, Janis, and Buck....buy it. It's a keeper!

- LeAnn Rimes makes AWESOME tribute to Country LegendsIf you have not yet bought the newest self-titled "LeAnn Rimes" CD, you are missing out on an AWESOME Tribute to the past. LeAnn really knows how to sing her little heart out. You can really hear her emotions on this CD. Whether she's heartbroken or angry, she sings all these emotions perfectly. I highly recommend this CD! You WON'T be sorry!

- Music To My EarsThis is without question one of the best albums I have ever listened to and I am not strictly a country fan. I am amazed at the sincerity and feeling in such a young voice. These usually come from experencing the things you are singing about.LeAnn's singing of Patsy Clines hits is almost breath taking but then I am a romantic at heart.
