- Beyond Words

I work with an American singer and Oldies star named Fabian and one night went hunting on youtube for any current clips of his. By this odd path I've encountered a Belgian woman who's almost literally taken my breath away.

Let me first say that I can't stand the false, Las Vegas, poorly overacted hystrionics of Celine Dion and her contemporaries. Watching her is for me like chewing on tin foil. The most impressive aspect of this DVD is Ms. Fabian's inate ability to present a deeply dramatic performance without for a second it seeming posed or premeditated. When her voice flies you're convinced that it's the sound of her torn heart and not sixteen vocal coaches and agents.

Except for one song Ms. Fabian sings in French but don't let that deter you from the experience - her intensity and manner of delivery is such that you somehow seem to understand the words. And as the title says it's truly an intimate evening - she performs most of the concert in a beautiful silk nightgown which instead of (or not only) lending a physical intimacy to the affair simply amplifies the fragility of her heart and the baring of her soul to you.

Ms. Fabian is accompanied by an exceptional pianist, a small string ensemble, a bare stage and minimal lighting... and it works. The sound is flawless, the camerawork is slow and steady and respectful (instead of the aggravating MTV style of two second shots upon one second shots.)

I now don't know whether I want to avoid romance at all costs or go find the perfect woman and fall for her deeply... preferably in Paris... but I do expect that I'll never forget this DVD.

- Absolutely Fabulous

Lara is always superb on stage. Her beauty and powerful voice will leave you breathless and will ensure that you watch this DVD over and over again. Lara's style on this show is a bit different from Lara Fabian Live (her Nue tour). Her approach on this DVD is similar to her 9-album although she sings all of her previous hits (unfortunately no English songs, but fans of Lara don't care, she sings great in any language). Even if the show is a bit more sedated than her Nue tour, it still has humor (Lara has a great sense for humor), style and elegance (a true Lara Fabian trademark). Two hours of non-stop musical excellence.

A must for everyone who's interested in Lara's music.

- Rembrandt of voice

Comparing Lara with Celine, Whitney and Mariah is as inappropriate like comparing Rembrandt with even the best computer graphics. They lack the natural beauty of Laras personality, emotion and soul in her voice . Laras live performance is a performing art and not just a "show" and she speaks with the audience and not just doing small talk. I love her...... and please ask her to continue singing in french and italian for authenticity but please include english translation (better her own) of her lyrics in every of her non english cd/dvd.

- Goose bump music. Exceptional every time I play it.

Yes, this is a pricey DVD. For a single disc concert DVD, it is the most I have paid for anything like it. BUT. Face it, it is not otherwise available - at least not legally. Regardless, I would not part with it. It is, as the title suggests, intimate. Intimate for the viewer and and for the live audience and whether you understand French or not it is an eyeful and an earful of incredibly beautiful music, magnificently staged and very touching. Probably the most tasteful piece of concert artistry I have ever seen. I would not hesitate to recommend it to any music lover of any language. No, there are no subtitles and there is not a bit of English on this DVD. I thought about looking for English translations of the songs but ultimately decided that the beauty of this music in French can not be improved by knowing the english. I do not feel it is necessary to know the words to understanding the lyrics BUT it would have been so nice to know the words in English that Lara speaks to the audience at the beginning of the performance and during the performance and it is quite obvious that the love between audience and performer is infectious. Lover of music and great presentation? If that is you, this DVD is for you.
