Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known by her stage name Katy Perry, is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Born in California to pastor parents, she grew up listening to gospel music and singing in church. Perry rose to fame in 2008 with her breakthrough single I Kissed A Girl. Katy Perry originally released music under her actual name. Her debut CD was Katy Hudson and this was a gospel-rock album. The album was released in 2001 as a Christian music album by Red Hill Records when she was seventeen years old before she made the switch to mainstream pop music.
