Review - Product Description
Katharine McPhee's career launched with her renowned run on "American Idol" in 2006. She has already enjoyed success with Christmas releases from her 2007 single "O Come All Ye Faithful" to 2009's "I'll Be Home For Christmas." Now she has recorded some of her favourite Christmas songs for her third album titled Christmas Is The Time.To Say I Love You, to be released by Verve Forecast. "I know these songs so well. These are the songs I listened to growing up. Hopefully my versions will be unique, but at the same time timeless; full and rich yet simple and intimate." The idea for this holiday album came about after the success of her first Christmas single, "I'll Be Home For Christmas," which was released last year. The song was a huge hit, downloaded over 500,000 times exclusively on iTunes. "I've been blessed to share Christmas with my family and close friends. Life on the road has made me realize how many people spend Christmas alone... These experiences inspired me to write an original song for the album called 'It's Not Christmas Without You.'" The producer of the album is Allen Sides, one of the most respected engineer/producers in music. A two-time Grammy winner for albums with Burt Bacharach and Joni Mitchell, Sides has also worked with Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald. Co-producing the album is Grammy nominated producer/engineer/ arranger Steven Miller who has worked with the Dave Matthews Band, Pink, Suzanne Vega and George Winston to name a few. The title track of the CD, "Christmas Is The Time.To Say I Love You," is a rarely covered song originally recorded by rocker Billy Squier in 1981. The album will also be filled with familiar classics, whether traditional or contemporary, from "O Holy Night" and "This Christmas" to a medley of "Away In A Manger"/"O Little Town Of Bethlehem" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" featuring trumpeter Chris Botti.

- It's all about the VOICE!

I suppose it's a matter of taste, but I love Kat's voice and she sounds amazing on this Christmas CD. There are serious, heartfelt ballads and fun-loving standards here that together make for an incredible showcase for Kat and her beautiful voice. I was honestly very surprised how much I LOVED the original tunes, expecting only to like the standards. Gratefully, her version of "O Holy Night" is understated and subtle. I was worried that Kat would give it the Celine Dion treatment. Thankfully, she doesn't. For the low price, this CD is a must own for this holiday seaon. I will be playing this CD all season long.

**** The iTunes version gives you a fun version of "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" as a bonus track. Also, you can download a few Christmas tracks there ("O Come all ye Faithful" and "I'll be Home for Christmas", both of which were released as singles a few years back.) These extras are for people like me who can't get enough of her voice!

- Stunning Vocal Quality

This is a classic and elegant Christmas album. Katharine Mcphee's vocals plus Christmas songs equals magical perfection! This has become one of my favorite Christmas albums instantly! There is indeed a certain quality to Mcphee's voice that sets her apart from other vocalists. I love every track in this album, no exception! She did a different take on "Jingle Bells", which is great. Her original Christmas composition, "It's Not Christmas Without You" is a beautiful song. She set the key high vocally in the title track, "Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You", which I truly love. With Chris Botti in "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", it is bound to be a classic. Her voice resonates and is crystal clear on the poignant album closer,"Who Would Imagine A King".

A sure Christmas playlist topper every year!

Enjoyed playing Katharine's Christmas CD this past Christmas! Her beautiful voice lends itself to a variety of music. The old and new Christmas songs were great! If she comes out with another Christmas CD this year, I'll be one of the first to order it!

- True Sound of the Season

I had heard some of the snippets of this CD and was sort of turned off, particularly by "Jingle Bells", which is too jazzed up and cheezy for my tastes. Having now purchased the CD, however, I can say that it is outstanding. Katharine's voice was made for these songs and she brings out the warmth in each and every one of them. Her original "It's Not Christmas Without You" is an excellent addition to the Holiday genre.

Pick it up, put it on, and sit back for an enjoyable holiday experience.
