John Clayton Mayer was born October 16, 1977, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, and started playing guitar at 13 after being inspired by a Stevie Ray Vaughan tape his neighbor gave him. In 1998 he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he refined his skills and gained a following. In 2003, he won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the 2002 single "Your Body Is a Wonderland" from the album Room for Squares. |

John Mayer — “Battle Studies” (Columbia): Back in 2004, Connecticut native John Mayer starred in a one-off television program for VH1 called “John Mayer Has a TV Show.” It was an irreverent and laugh-out-loud 30 minutes that found the singer/songwriter making fun of himself, taking chances and, generally, pleasing his audience. Unfortunately, Mayer can never duplicate this success musically.
