- Wonderful World, Beautiful Reissue
Trojan Records continues its extensive catalog backhaul with this nicely remastered, well-packaged reissue of Jimmy Cliff's self-titled 1969 release. Most music fans (outside Jamaica) became aware of Cliff when he starred in the 1974 cult film "The Harder They Come", but he had already achieved superstar status in his native country long before...one listen to this well-crafted debut album will make you see why. Historically, Marley and Tosh may be the ones who are synonymous with "political" reggae, but back in 1969 the Wailers were still basically a "pop" group while Jimmy Cliff was singing the provocative "Vietnam". You'll also find Cliff's signature ballad here, the moving and spiritual "Many Rivers To Cross". His infectious pop-ska hit "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" is another highlight. Trojan throws in a more-than-generous 14-track bonus, making this an essential addition to any reggae fan's collection. Trojan gets added to my "short list" of reissue labels (BGO, Edsel, Sundazed, Rhino, Repertoire, Wounded Bird) who are sincerely "collector-friendly".

- excellent album
This album has some great sound, tons of great tracks. It's quite long, definitely worth your money, and the songs are classic. This was my first Jimmy Cliff album, and made me fall in love with his music. His lyrics are powerful and socially conscious (often quite sad) while his rhythms are upbeat and positive.
