Description :
Japanese pressing includes the bonus tracks 'Take Your Sweet Time' (Sugar Mix), 'Best Day Of My Life' & 'Stupid Things' ( Acoustic Version ). Avex.Review - Amazon.com :
Jesse McCartney is so pinup-ready, so boy-bandishly appealing in that shaggy-sweet kind of way, that anyone older than 17 will likely be rolling their eyes at him. You know what comes next: they shouldn't. In a classic case of can-that-many-teenage-girls-be-wrong?, McCartney's solo debut sparkles—the danceable tracks call to mind Michael Jackson in his early '80s heydey, the ballads reek of Babyface, and the rest rolls up Hall & Oates, Craig David, and flecks of Usher into a rib-sticking concoction anybody with an ear for pop will want to swallow whole. It's not exactly brain food—the tracks he co-wrote, including standout and opener "She's No You," "What's Your Name," and "That Was Then," are little more than smooth, shiny come-ons telling high school girls what they want to hear. And there's no denying the disc is front-loaded, with the relationshippy stuff starting to wear as track 12 approaches. But despite those things—and despite the name he's made for himself on TV (first on All My Children and more recently on WB's Summerland), which will only add to his early panning among "serious" listeners—Beautiful Soul sets out plenty of reasons to believe that this heartthrob, no matter how long his tousle-haired beauty holds up, has got soul to burn. --Tammy La GorceCustomer review - 2006-01-03
- Good, but leave the shirt on, JesseThat's what I say every time I think about the video for the title track of Jesse McCartney's album Beautiful Soul (I'm sure he did it a lot on Summerland too, but I don't think anyone watched that show). Anyway, amidst all the teenybopper pop music and what have you, the lyrics make this album quite accessible.
Before I go on, I'd like to mention something that annoys me as well as a number of other reviewers. I'm really tired of people giving pop albums like this one star and then suggesting that people listen to music from hard rock bands instead. I mean, I like hard rock too, but if you ONLY listen to hard rock, what the hell are you doing writing a review for THIS album? I'm pretty sure you didn't listen to it. (And no offense, but I also think the editorial reviewer's putting Jesse in the same league as Babyface and Hall & Oates is ridiculous.)
Anyway, on with the album. The aforementioned title track is a highlight, and I find myself addicted to "She's No You". Jesse also impresses with ballads, as evidenced by "Come to Me", "Take Your Sweet Time" and the introspective "Why Is Love So Hard to Find". And "Why Don't You Kiss Her" is more interesting than the lyrics may lead you to believe.
The club-ready tracks are filler, though, like "Get Your Shine On" and especially "What's Your Name". And I don't know why Thicke decided to put his song "The Stupid Things" on here, because Jesse doesn't seem to know what to do with it (but Thicke didn't impress with it on his own album, either). The music to "That Was Then" also doesn't sound much different from "She's No You".
In short, Beautiful Soul stands out from the rest of the TRL-ready music out now because the songs are actually relatable to people outside of that viewer's circle. If you're a little older like I am and you don't know if you want to buy this, listen to it in the store first, but I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it.

- Jesse and his music is a disgrace...Okay, before you get mad at me, or automatically click the "no" button on the "was this review helpful" please, please, just listen to me first. I have read some of the other one star reviews, and some of them in my opinion are very helpful, because some of the one star reviewers HAVE said why they don't like Jesse McCartney or his music, but they still get unhelpful votes. I'm getting the feeling that the majority of you just click the no button on any one star review just because you're mad and offended that you have people out there who actually have the guts to give your beloved favorite Jesse McCartney pop singer just one star. See, that's exactly what I thought. But yet you'd be quick to give a helpful vote to some 5 star one-sentence review that might say something lame, like "OMG, I love Jesse and his music, buy this album now!" Without even going into detail about why you liked it or anything of that sort. Shows how immature some of you really are. But anyways, I'm going to actually get to the POINT of this review.
Okay...I think that there's only 2 reasons why Jesse is so famous...
Number 1: He's "hott" (I can't even begin to tell you about all the thousands of times girls talk about how "hott" he is)
Number 2: All of his lyrics are about love and girls.
But are people actually paying attention to the actual singing itself? If you seriously think that Jesse is the most best talented singer who ever lived, then you must obviously not be thinking clearly. He whines SO MUCH in all of his songs, and he even sounds like he's crying or sometimes he sounds like a girl. And I'm not just saying that, I have heard his songs before. His voice is very light and soft, and he just whines. There are MUCH better powerful singers out there. Don't believe me? Then try checking out some high school choir concerts at your local high school, now there's talent. I know alot girls and guys who are in choir and they literally sound like gods and angels when they sing at their concerts, and I'm not over exaggerating, the choir at the high school I go to is extremely talented. But none of them got famous for their singing, so why should Jesse? I know girls who can sing so much louder, forceful, strong, and just all around powerful and still keep in the same key signature and melody as the song and still stay in melody and can sing alot more powerful than Jesse. All Jesse does is whimper softly or whine.
Jesse McCartney DOES NOT deserve as much fame, praise, and popularity as he's getting, as both a musician and as a person, he just doesn't. It's really disgusting, sickening, and sad once you think about all the thousands of girls out there who kiss up to him ENTIRELY too much, and go head over heels and do cartwheels and backflips for him. The main reason why he's famous is because of his looks, now that really annoys me. His lyrics are all about emotions about love and feelings and about wanting a girlfriend. Come on, we've heard this same crap when Nsync and The Backstreet Boys used to be famous, and this type of style is old. And speaking of old, that played out Beautiful Soul song is as old as crap. It is WAY too overplayed, WAY too boring and tedious, and not everyone likes that song. It's an INCREDIBLY stupid song, both lyrically and musically. I even know of a few girls who can't stand that song.
I also hate Jesse's attitude and personality. I've seen this guy on TV and on interviews, and he needs to quit acting like he's the coolest hottest guy on earth and he needs to stop coming off like he thinks he's great or like all the girls like him, because not all girls care for him, his personality, or his music. I have friends who are girls who absolutely can not STAND Jesse and his music and are also tired of all this hype over Jesse themselves. Jesse should not be proud of this crappy sorry excuse for an album he put out, he shouldn't. He should be feeling embarrassed and ashamed of himself and so should all of his co-workers who write his music, and the music/record companies who support him, because again, he's not singing, he really is whining! And it gets annoying and irritating after awhile of hearing that, it really is!
You see, I remember the day when you actually had to have TALENT to make a record deal. If Jesse were to try to be famous 10 years ago, people would probably start to boo at him, throw tomatoes at him, and then laugh him off stage. Look at teen music in America today, people. How do you think fake actor computerized singing voice Hilary Duff and fake stupid poser guitarist Avril Lavigne currently have music careers (I shouldn't even have to explain or go into detail why Hilary Duff and Avril Lavigne suck so much). It's just sad how easy it is to get famous these days. Fame should happen to people who actually dedicate their lives to music, and are actually serious about music, and actually care about their actually music career rather than their image, or being a complete phony because you have others writing the lyrics for your songs instead of you doing it yourself. Fame shouldn't happen to people who only have started taking up an interest in music for a month or whatever, and then, BOOM, they get a record deal....no, it should take time to for someone to truly get famous. My dad is a saxophone player, and he's been playing for more than 15 years trying to get famous and he's a professional at saxophone. He's even in a jazz band, and they have done some local concerts, and they're a great band, but they've never got famous, they've never got discovered, and they're professionals. It's really, really sad when you think about it. Oh well....it just makes me happy to realize that I could easily get famous, get a record deal, and make it into the music business if I were to get up on stage and whine about how much I wish I had a girlfriend. Wow, the times sure have changed.
Please don't by this album. I'm sorry if my review offended you or hurt your feelings, I really am, but I'm just speaking my mind. I don't know, maybe the reason why I don't like this stuff is because I'm a teenage male, and I'm not so quick to go out and buy an album the same minute it comes out, or the fact that I actually listen to stuff that's actually music. I like all kinds of music...I like contemporary jazz, stuff like Larry Carlton, Dave Koz, Boney James, Peter White, Norman Brown, etc....I like techno, electronica, dance, and trance music, stuff like Airwave, Informatik, Fragma, BT, Cygnus X, Mark Otten, Astura etc....and I like rock...whether it's hard heavy death metal, nu/rap metal, emo, or mainstream rock, I like bands like Blink 182 or Sum 41, to bands like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Disturbed, to hard heavy bands like System of a Down, Lamb of God, Necrophagist, As I lay Dying, and I even like old school/classic rock, stuff like the band Kiss, and guitarist Jimi Hendrix. But my music has to be music, when I listen to music, I'm not listening to it because of how the people in the music group look, I listen to it because of the actual music itself, and I enjoy practicing it on my keyboards, my guitar, or even my drums, that's how much REAL music really means to me. I really don't think Jesse's singing career is going to last another 2 months with how tedious and whiny his music is and how extremely annoying it is hearing that song Beautiful Soul everywhere you go in public. I know I've said it many times before, but Jesse whines too much, and it isn't talented.. Find some interest in some different singers, bands, or music for a change, please, you might be alot happier with yourself. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

- Surprisingly greatJesse McCartney is young, handsome, and an actor on TV. All the ingredients that usually go into garbage music. Surprisingly, the material here is appealing to all ages. My daughter is 15 and loves it. She also loves Justin Timberlake, Usher, Christina A., but wouldn't have touched Aaron Carter, or teenbopper-pop with a ten foot pole. I grew up with James Tayor, Earth Wind and Fire, and the pop of the 70s and 80s.
My daughter wanted to buy this CD and I relented. Listening with her in the car, I was surprised at how much better this is than I thought it would be. In fact I really love it.
What's even more surprising is that Jesse McCartney can actually sing. Many of these actor/singer's voices sound manufactured by computers but you can tell McCartney has got real chops. My favorites on this album are "The Stupid Things," a soulful heartfelt love song, and "Get Your Shine On" an homage to off-the-wall vintage Michael Jackson.

- Awesome album!Jesse McCartney's solo debut album is absolutely amazing! I'll admit, I was skeptical when I heard about him at first, I figured he would be just another over produced, untalented boy band type of artist. But when I heard "Beautiful Soul", the title track to this album, I was completely blown away. I had to have the album, simply for that song. So I bought it, and let me tell you, I have no regrets. This CD is definitely one of the best CDs of the year. With the smooth pop rock music and Jesse's equally smooth, amazing vocals, the sound is beautiful and unique. And the lyrics are equally wonderful, they deal with issues all teens go through, but all the songs are written in a different way than all the other ones out there, and they give a fresh perspective.
Here's a rundown of the album:
1. She's No You- 9/10- This song is really cool, fast guitar music and absolutely filled with lyrics. Really rocks!
2. Beautiful Soul-10/10- Title track to the album. This is my new favorite song, the lyrics and music are totally awesome. I especially love the part in the middle where the guitar comes in, 2 thumbs up, Jesse!
3. Get Your Shine On-7/10- Cool song to dance to, not much more to say about that one. One of my least favorites on album. (Still cool though)
4. Take Your Sweet Time-8/10 I love this song, it's so sweet, and it really shows off Jesse's range, going from low to high.
5. Without U- 10/10- One of my favorites, the lyrics are awesome and the musical arrangement is really unique. Again, shows off Jesse's amazing voice to an advantage.
6. Why Don't You Kiss Her?- 8/10- Really sweet song about a guy wondering whether he should tell his best friend that he loves her or not. Sweet and simple.
7. That Was Then- 8/10- Cool song, full of lyrics.
8. Come to Me-6/10- Cool song, just not one of my favorites. Kinda slow and boring at times.
9. What's Your Name?- 10/10- I love this song, it totally rocks! Great beat and lyrics, this song will really get you moving!
10. Because You Live-7/10- Sweet love song, but kinda standard. Almost every artist sings a song that pretty much says this same thing. But cool music and Jesse's vocals turn this one up a notch.
11. Why Is Love So Hard To Find?-9/10- Seriously cool song, and so true. The lyrics really hit home, all about how everybody searches for love, and the music is cool too.
12. Stupid Things-7/10- Definitely not one of my faves, but still cool.
In closing, buy this CD, you will not regret it, I promise!

- Please, before you hate me, LISTENJesse McCartney is a cute, white blonde boy. That alone wins you enough fans to brag about (don't even try to tell me his looks had NOTHING to do with your purchase). Jesse McCartney has one moderately catchy single. That, combined with the former, guarantees you a monstrous enough fanbase to be famous. Now I'm not saying Jesse can't sing. He has more vocal talent than, say, William Hung or Maria Mena or that other boy toy Stevie something-or-other. But there is an excruciating whininess in his voice that I just can't handle-it is most potent in his recent Disney hit "Get Your Shine On"-I just want to track down and strangle the boy when I hear that song. It sounds like someone is squeezing his balls (singers this young desperately need to stop trying to be sexy, they aren't old enough to understand how to do it). Another problem is the hooks-some are horrific, some are hooky, but there's nothing nearly as infectious as what *Nsync and the Backstreet Boys did. Now, I realize all his fawning preteen female fans will just want to kill me, shouting back that he can sing, he's just so great, voting my review as unhelpful. But let's think realistically here: when you compare him to other singers his age: Jojo, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake when they started out, etc......he just does not measure up. His range is subpar at best, and as I said before, he far too often lets himself whine (hey, Justin whines every once in awhile, but at least he has way better range and his smoldering sexy moments). This guy is very good-looking, and for that I'd say he'd make a successful model, but it really upsets me when pretty boys become so successful while singers with stunning voices get shunned because they aren't as cute. If you want eye candy, go buy a porn mag, geez.
