Description :
His charm and excitement has been captured in its entirety on Tonight, Not Again: Jason Mraz Live At The Eagles Ballroom, a very special two disc set including an audio CD of his concert from Milwaukee's Eagles Ballroom, plus a video DVD of the concert plus tons of backstage and behind-the-scenes Mraz goodness.Customer review - 2004-09-10
- Torn in two - Mraz is great, the crowd is obnoxiousWhile Mraz shines on this album the mixing is terrible. I am not impressed by the teeny-bopper screams that overlay most of the tracks and, in fact, find it incredibly annoying, particularly the amount of "sing along" you can hear on a few tracks. The cut tracks are a severe disappointment and seems to indicate a rush to get the cd out.
That aside, Mraz is a fab voice and comes across as a real talent especially on songs like Absolutely Zero and 1000 Things (if you can stand the screamers). Common Pleasure is a great pick for a live cd but, again, is nearly ruined by the Beatles-esque girly screaming (I mean, for the love of God, was he NAKED or handing out cash, or what?!). John Popper makes a great guest on Curbside Prophet - a real treat - proving that even an artist's hottest song has room to grow and breathe.
For my money, I would rather get a copy of his World Cafe interview with a nice quiet crowd, a fab rendition of The Remedy and, of course, David Dye's inquiring mind, or even better, get Waiting for My Rocket To Come and save the extra cash for a ticket to a real show.

- Completely fabulousI was tentative at first to purchase this CD/DVD set because I am generally not into live recordings. But my decision to get it was so right. Granted, playing the CD alone and hearing the crowds' screaming can be slightly annoying, but once I put the DVD in and watched the concert, I saw exactly why they were screaming. The lovely and engaging Jason is a totally amazing performer. He gives the audience his all and draws them into his world. The fact that he loves what he does is really obvious too. His ability to improvise and to experiment with different music styles is unbelievable. And his vocal range is out of this world. The song No Stopping Us displays this point perfectly.
The DVD shows the concert, some interesting little interviews in between each song, and there are also some funny extras that show that not only is Jason Mraz an incredibly talented guy, he is also funny and down to earth. The viewer gets an idea of what a day in the life of Jason is really like.
For anyone who already has and loves his studio CD Waiting For My Rocket To Come, I highly suggest you get this one too. There are a handful of songs on this recording that are not on his album. This live recording shows his true raw talent in a way that the restraints of a studio album recording never could. And to those of you considering delving into the world of Mraz for the first time, I do recommend this particular recording, but check out his studio album as well.
I can honestly say that this guy is my favorite performer and you just might feel the same way if you check out this CD.

- Incredible experience - goosebump music!!!I pre-ordered this album and received it today. It is AWESOME. I have always thought that the studio album (Waiting for my Rocket to Come) didn't do Mraz's music justice - he is SO much better live. This album captures his unique live personality and incredible songwriting ability perfectly.
The production is great and the album has a very laid-back live sound - Stephen Marcussen did a great job mastering this album. The muso's are wonderful as well, and the improv bits are right up there with Dave Matthews Band and John Mayer concerts (no wonder Jason Mraz is touring with DMB this summer...).
In short, this album proves once again that rock is FAR from dead. Bland pop music has nothing on this type of music. No matter what your preferred style, you will have to search long and hard to find an album like this - an album that truly captures rock music's ability to encapsulate all that is FUN in music and the world!!

- Good, Not GreatJason Mraz, once described as "Jack Johnson on prozac," is truly one of the most talented of all the new generation of Dave Matthews wannabe, acoustic-guitar-toting, happy-go-lucky frat minstrels. Think of his voice as the male-version of Jewel, and you may have a starting point. Basically, he wails! That being said, his guitar playing is nothing special, and he even ventures into the electric realm of this album (which is a mistake). The electric lacks the percussiveness of the acoustic, which in terms of complexity, is the only thing that carries Mraz's guitar style. This album is a good starting point for anyone interested in Mraz's not-to-be-missed live show, but anyone who has seen him live knows he is capable of so much more. He sounds reserved on this album. Whether he was nervous (he knew it was being recorded to be released as an album), or whether going mainstream has toned him down is an area that will be argued among fans for years to come. Mraz is an incredible talent, and this album gives you a taste without offering you a full bite.

- Absolutely Excellent- Ten Stars, not Five!I was searching the internet one day because I had heard this fabulous singer/guitar player perform this acoustic song live one time. The lyrics, his voice was so haunting and beautiful, I needed to find out who he was. I found an obscure web-site that had him doing a live performance in this room with just a mike, his guitar and him. He sang, "You And I Both". It was Jason Mraz, singer, songwriter, absolutely one of the most talented musicians, ever.
I knew he was one of the best male vocal performers I had ever heard. I couldn't get enough. I bought "Waiting For My Rocket To Come" and turned on two of my relatives to him. Next, I got "Mr.A-Z", and turned on everyone I know to him. They are all big fans of Jason now.
I had heard that "Tonight Not Again" was his best. It was sold out everywhere I went. Now I know why! Wow!
Jason's live performance is the best by far then any other live performances that we've/I've heard in many many years. I don't want to compare...but if I must...just purchased John Mayer Trio and Jack Johnson and was dissappointed after hearing Jason because he was by far better vocally then both of them put together and his band is better as well. His Pop/Rock/Jazz style is completely his own. He has so much versatality and charm and makes a real connection with his audience on this DVD, who absolutely adore him. The CD has less songs on it, but the acoustics are so good, it's magical.
If you're into heavy metal, rap, r & b, this is probably not for you. This is not some distorted guitar playing, rapping r & b singer trying to sound good. This is excellence of the utmost. A true original.
