James Brown (James Joseph Brown, Barnwell, South Carolina, May 3, 1933 — Atlanta, Georgia, December 25, 2006) was a prolific singer, songwriter, bandleader and record producer. James Brown is recognized as one of the most influential figures in 20th century music. He was a seminal force in the evolution of gospel and rhythm and blues into soul and funk.
