Nearly a decade into his career, Ice Cube remains at the forefront of gangsta rap--but when it comes to manipulating sounds, he sometimes seems one-dimensional, especially when compared with the likes of Snoop Doggy Dogg (who had a lot of help in that department from Cube's old N.W.A. mate Dr. Dre) and sample master Sean "Puffy" Combs. But on War & Peace, Vol. 1, Cube's first album in five years, the hip-hop renaissance man reestablishes himself as a kingpin in the studio as well as on the street. Every song is surrounded by minor-key melodies and moody flourishes that enhance the effect of the intimidating lyrics, and the overall sound of the mix is rich and deep. Cube doesn't stop there, however, adding touches such as a No Doubt sample loop on "War and Peace" and a queasy guitar riff on "F**k Dying," compliments of neo-metal marauders Korn. - ABOVE THE GAME!Cube is incredible, no matter what he does. Tremendous CD, blazin! But I'm not surprised at all. Cube is one of the top leaders of rap. Pure talent! Cube is hard to touch.

- These hataz tryin' to take me downCube in this LP is unbelieveable... I haven't really heard too much Cube previous to this CD, but after hearin' this i gosta get me some of his ol' shiz... Ask About Me, Pushin' Weight, F*ck Dyin', War & Peace, Ghetto Vet, Peckin' Order, Extradition, and 3 Strikes these songs are by far the best on the CD... Cube has just changed my way of listin' to music.

- ONE OF THE BEST.THIS CD KICKS BUTT! Good songs on this cd are Ask About Me, Pushin' Weight, Dr. Frankenstein, F*** Dying, Ghetto Vet, Cash Over A**, and The Curse of Money. This is definately one of the best cd's ever made. Pushin' Weight is my favorite song. Now I even have an AOL screen name called IcecubeJZ.
