Though they started out as indie roots-rockers who wrote irony-tinged, southern-fried songs, after the critically acclaimed 2001 release of the two-disc opus 'Southern Rock Opera' (which told the tragic story a mythical band that bore more than a little resemblance to star-crossed outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd) there was little question that the Drive-By Truckers were a force to be reckoned with.
