- Real Rock
Hinder's Extreme Behavior, originally released in 2005, is one of the best new rock albums available. This new 2-disc set is the best way to experience it.

The bonus DVD is definitely worth the purchase, even if you already own the original single-disc CD. The DVD has great concert footage and tons of backstage film (which includes plenty of topless women and drug use, so its not for children). The DVD runs over an hour and a half and includes all the great videos on top of the live show.
5/5 Stars for the DVD

Now for a track-by-track rating

1. Get Stoned 5/5
One of the best on the album, and one of the band's first hits. It stays in your head forever, even if you don't smoke weed (I don't either). Great lyrics and melody, what an opener!!!

2. How Long 5/5
A hard-hitting story of love and heartbreak. Heavy music with nice riffs and a great ending, one of the best endings to a song, especially on this album.

3. By the Way 5/5
Every song stays in your head on Extreme Behavior, and this is one of the top candidates. Its a slower song for the CD and it pays off great. The bridge is wonderful.

4. Nothin' Good About Goodbye 5/5
The beginning drums make it sound like an 80's rock song, but stick with it--the song is amazing ("Fallin, Fallin Harder, Fallin Apart" will stay with you and make you press repeat).

5. Bliss 5/5
One of the best on the CD, its a touching song about heartbreak (again)--but somehow it never gets old.

6. Better Than Me 5/5
Its probably their best song besides LIPS OF AN ANGEL, but thanks to the RADIO it got old fast. Way overplayed. But why? Because its genius.

7. Room 21 5/5
It took a couple listens for me to like it, but its great. Wonderful hooks, and dirty lyrics. Good song for Hinder.

8. Lips of an Angel 5/5
Everyone would agree that this will remain a classic forever. The best on the CD, hands down... Yes, this was also overplayed on the radio, but for some reason its still not old. Honey why you callin' me?

9. Homecoming Queen 5/5
My personal favorite of the post-lips of an angel-songs. The intro is amazing. Wonderful lyrics and music.

10. Shoulda 3.5/5
This one is great, its just their worst on the CD. Its not a bad song... but compared to the other 11, its not that great (The other 11 are JUST THAT GOOD!). Worth a few listens...

11. Born to be Wild 5/5
This is what you get with this DELUXE version ONLY. Who better than to cover this than Hinder???

12. Get Stoned (Piano Version) 4/5
Also with deluxe only--great song, just better with the Rock N' Roll... I DO like what they did with this though. A slower, yet still dirty song for the new age. The piano is a nice touch.

The booklet inside the CD case also includes new photos and ringtones you can purchase, along with the lyrics to all the songs.

Overall, this is the CD to get if you like rock and roll, not crazy heavy metal but also not soft rock music for girls like all american rejects or fall out boy.

- The DVD edition scores a healthy four stars
Coming across as a younger more party orientated version of Nickelback to my mind Hinder on this debut lay the foundation for a good party within the confines of the hard rock universe. With the vocals of Austin Winkler intertwined with the bands rock `n' roll heartbeat the band cruises down the highway in love with a carefree form of the genre whose light hearted and lightweight delivery truly evokes that of the late 80's pop metal bands. And that's meant as a compliment.

The band open their account with Get Stoned where the scene is set for the rest of the album in the form of lots of almost yelled vocals and slightly understated but upfront riffing. The band sound like they'd perform as good time evoking professionals on a large stage and absolutely rip on a small stage. Further cuts such as How Long reinforce the image of a bunch of young lads who got to life the dream and I can't hate them for that. The music is mostly reminiscent to me of a somewhat lighter Nickelback and they also don't have quite the same ability to pen a tune and lyrics of such universal qualities of Chad Kroegers mob. The album has both quicker numbers and slowburn tunes such as Shoulda. And of course the album was blessed with having a hit in the form of fairly traditional power ballad Lips Of An Angel.

Some may find this album a bit too studied, from the inclusion of the f word and the persona put forward in interviews. Whether that's the case, well I'm willing to withold my judgement on the strength of this album alone.

The production values are fine. Brian Howes did the honours and it was mixed by Randy Staub if possible you should try to get this extended version of the album as it contains a few bonus tracks. These is a piano version of Get Stoned and a cool cover of Born To Be Wild. The former shows what this band may be capable of if their fanbase follows them long enough to get them through to, say, a third album. The latter, well nothing touches the original Steppenwolf Born to be Wild but these young pups do a very spirited version of it. Respect.

And the DVD is really what takes this thing to a very healthy four stars, in fact I can understand the five star reviews. You see it has all the promo videos including one for Born to be Wild, interview footage and a concert. The gig isn't exactly at Wembley Stadium, Tokyo Dome or Donnington but it's certainly blessed with a very enthusiastic crowd and the fun factor is pretty infectious.

A worthy debut from a fairly middle of the road musically bunch of guys. Good for highways and byways but not overly challenging and the fact that much of their fan base seems made up of `tweenagers' is probably appropriate. Whether they learn to speak to a larger audience like Nickelback has done only the future can tell. But if you do spend your hard earned whatever you do, make sure you get this version!
