For a few years I have been waiting for some band to come along and refresh everyone's memory as to what rock music is "meant" to be. Apparently Hinder, along with their label execs and PR team have picked up on this gaping whole in popular music as well, precluding their debut album with all sorts of trumpeting about how badly behaved they are. Look guys, we drink and have sex all the time, just like those guys in the 80s did! In case you weren't sure, our album is even called Extreme Behavior!!

Right from the start, this struck me as desperate and a sure sign of wankery. Its like that whole paradox of gangsta rap- REAL gangsters don't talk about themselves, so it can be logically assumed that the rappers who talk the most about gang banging in fact do the least. Why would you make such a big deal about "living like a rock star"? I encountered all kinds of hype about this band before hearing their music, at which point their true nature became quite clear to me. Why put on that sex, drugs, rock&roll front? Because their music sucks!

Yes, it's true, its just another Nickelback/Trapt/Staind/Creed knockoff. Frustrated with their inability to actually create a new or (perhaps more importantly) a more authentic sound, they instead have relied on a press blitzkrieg to forge an IMAGE of being different from the rest of the pack, and thus worth your attention and your $15. Thirty seconds into any song on this album however, you will find yourself knee deep in that same dull, monotonous, ear-numbing muck that has been filling the so-called "rock" airwaves for the past 6 years. Another forgettable band slogging through what sound like watered down covers of STP and Alice in Chains, trying to figure out what they are doing wrong and what GnR did right.

Comparing these non-rockers to the greats of the 70s and 80s is hugely inappropriate, especially when the only grounds for doing so is the fact that Hinder loves talking about drinking and sex. Once again, probably at the behest of PR team.

This is just what we needed. We needed yet another band to write sappy, uninspired, sleep-inducing music that has been rehashed too many times. We already had Creed and Nickelback making us paranoid, along with a bunch of other bands that sound exactly like them, and now we have Hinder.

What is there to say about this "music"? Well, first off, the vocalist sounds terrible. Listening to him attempt to sing "Lips of an Angel" makes me rather listen to a 3500 mHz square wave for the duration of that song. "Get Stoned" sounds like a really poor man's Buckcherry, just softer and watered down. And how did this get on a major label? Pfft, guess like Puddle of Mudd's 15 minutes of fame came to an end, and Nickelback grew tiring, so they signed an equally horrible band to rake in the profit. Hinder is none more than a marketing tool. There are better alternatives to this, even some of the music played on the radio (good examples: Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Alice in Chains). Just don't buy this and don't believe the hype.

Absolutley NOTHING special about this band. Follows pretty much every mainstream rule. A rather pathetically short album of ten tracks at 35 minutes in length. If you're all about Nickelback, Creed, and all those other trendy drama queen bands, this will probably agree with your musical cravings. I found this to be just another waste of music's space and completely unoriginal.

I have been listening to Rock N Roll for 35+ years now. There seem to be a lot of nay-sayers that like to compare Hinder to the likes of Nickelback and the rest. I especially enjoyed the one about the band Hinder just sitting around listening to Nickelback saying "we can do that". My answer to that is, Nickelback said the same thing when they heard Def Leppard, Def Leppard said the same thing when they heard bla, bla, bla.........and on down the line to the true originators of Rock N Roll and the Blues. Many of the best rock and roll bands copied themselves almost identically to take advantage of a certain style that was popular at the time. During the Beatles time frame everybody from the Turtles, The Dave Clark 5 and the BeeGees admitted to totally ripping off 'the sound' to sell themselves.

The fact is Hinder has stood out amongst thousands of Nickelback 'sound-a-likes' with their superior songwriting, awesome melodies, tight production, raspy emotional on-the-nose vocals and throwback sound to the big-hair era of the early 90's. If it was a piece of cake to break free of the local bar scene, we'd be deluged with bad copycats...fact is we are lucky to hear the good ones like Hinder. If you don't believe me, go to [...] and type in Hinder and see all of the sad singers trying to sound like Hinder.....then you'll truly appreciate how good Austin and the crew is at projecting their voice and sounding professional.

I just have one thing to say about Hinder, they ROCK. Catchy hooks, rockin' melodies, they weave you through an emotional maze that leave my throat sore at the end of this 10 song rollar coaster of rocking tunes and painful ballads. The whole CD is eirily familiar as you reminisce about lost love, girls, booze and partying...and well...isn't that what rock is supposed to be.

When a band like Hinder goes platinum what else can you say? This is complete rubbish. When I first heard Lips of an Angel I threw up in my mouth a little.
