This CD is titled "Jammin' with Herbie Hancock", but it really is a set of outtakes (except for the last track, whose source I do not know) from a 1961 album by sax player Pepper Adams entitled "Out of This World", in which Hancock played as sideman along with trumpeter Donald Byrd, drummer Jimmy Cobb, and bassist Layman Jackson. It's pretty typical straight-ahead jazz cuts, but shows Hancock as a top-notch pianist in some of his earliest work. The packaging, as one of the "Collectables Jazz Classics", gives no information about the performers or original recording sources, and merely includes a brief bio of Hancock's career. Also brief is the amount of music, which only runs to about 35 minutes. Most surprising is that some of the tracks are faded out at the end. I assume this was done because the outtake had a problem that needed to be edited, and fading is one simple, albeit annoying, technique to cope with it. This CD would probably be of interest mostly to Hancock aficianados. It offers nothing of any great significance to others.
