Review - Amazon.com essential recording :
Nimrod came along two years after 1995's Insomniac and was the first indication of Green Day's willingness to stretch the boundaries of punk rock. The fullness of the record is first hinted at on "Hitchin' a Ride," which starts out chug-a-lugging and then breaks into a raging rocker."Redundant" is accented with some psyched-out guitar work and has Billie Joe Armstrong singing a good deal more than usual. The wonderful "Platypus (I Hate You)" speed-rocks with abandon and recalls the early days of L.A. punk (a little Dickies here, a little Descendents there). The biting "Take it Back" is a snarling throwback to hard punk, and "Prosthetic Head" is an infectious ditty that counts among the very best on the album. Most surprising is "Last Ride In," an instrumental nod to the sensual surf-and-sun life. Of course, the crown jewel of the collection is the sentimental, acoustic "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," which seemed nearly inescapable when it was released. Beyond these standouts, even the "usual" Green Day fare here has punch. --Lorry Fleming

- Great Music from a Great Band
It is such a shame to see a great band like Green Day being the target of so much negative criticism. Here is a band who can make great music, are impressive as hell when performing live, and they never seems to put out an album with the sole purpose of being popular or on TV so much. (If that were the case, they would release more albums at a time.) Green Day is one of my all time favorites and they continue to do nothing but impress me. "Nimrod" is an excellent album with a ton of great songs.

You can see how much the band has matured and how they have grown musically. They are always willing to try new things, which is something you really see lacking in some of these newer punk or alternative bands. The guitar playing is great, the drumming is always impressive, and the singing and lyrics are reflections of top-notch talent.

EVERY song on this album is great, but here are some of my favorites: hitchin' a ride, the grouch, nice guys finish last, worry rock, scattered, king for a day, walking alone, prosthetic head, and time of your life. (Seeing the song "king for a day" actually performed live really enriches the song and makes you appreciate it more.)

Green Day is a fabulous band who has never disappointed me once. I just think they got popular too quick and then people started burning out on them. It is a shame because they are a great band who can play music. If you love to hear outstanding music from an exceptional band, Green Day's "Nimrod" might be the CD for you. Definitely worth checking out!

- Great, But Different
This CD is a lot different than other Green Day Cd's in the past, but it is still awesome. The songs have many different chords than Dookie. You'll never get tired of it becausethere are 18 songs and it is 50 minutes long! Here are rundowns of all of the songs:

1. Nice Guys Finish Last- an explosive CD to start off the album.

2. Hitchin' a Ride- Another great, short song.

3. The Grouch- this song has the most bad words in it than any other song. Oh well, it's still great and very funny.

4. Redundant- a slower song that's one of my favroites.

5. Scattered- Not the best, but still good.

6. All the time- This song's pretty good but not the best.

7. Worry Rock- This song is awesome!

8. Platypus- A fast and to the point song. Good luck figuring out the lyrics cause they dont have them in the lyric book.

9. Uptight- Not as good as some of the others.

10. Last Ride in- A wonedrful all-instrumental piece.

11. Jinx- Another funny and fast song.

12. Haushinka- this song has many different guitar riffs but it's not all pulled together.

13. Walking Alone- An experimental, somewhat folk song.

14. Reject- A great song with good lyrics

15. Take Back- One of my favorites. This one minute song is great if you have just broken up with someone and you're really mad.

16. King for a day- a funny song about a boy who wants to be a girl. It's an experimental piece that has horns in it so it sounds somewhat like a ska song.

17. Time of your Life- The band shows their soft side with this great song, which is still played on a lot of radio stations.

18. Prosthetic Head- MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE WHOLE ALBUM! Great guitar riffs and great lyrics is why this song is my favorite.

- I was a fool
I'm old school. Actually, I'm just old. I'm 31 and I've been listening to punk since I was 13. I was introduced to Green Day back in 1991, when 39/Smooth was their only album. I saw them play live, and I loved them. 39/Smooth, Slappy, 1000 Hours, these remain some of my favorite records. I liked the records that came later, but never as much as I loved the ones on the first CD. I loved Dookie, I thought it was cool at the time that they took on a harder, heavier, more "punk rock" sound. And while I can't deny that I also liked Insomniac, it seemed to me that Green Day had stagnated into a generic riff style. So, when Nimrod was released, I didn't care. I never bought it. The only song I ever heard off of it was Good Riddance, and it certainly didn't make me want to buy the album. (Not that it's a bad song... it's just Billie Joe's "Yesterday".) Well, last week I was listening to the radio on the way home from work and heard a song that I'd never heard before. I instantly knew it was Green Day. The DJ said that it was off of their brand new album, so I stopped at a record store and picked up both Nimrod and Warning right then and there. Anyway, the short version is: I really wish I'd bought Nimrod back in 1997. It's already my 2nd favorite Green Day album, just behind 39/Smooth. (Unfortunately I think Warning is probably their weakest album so far, though it does have a few very good songs on it.)

- A bit of an exception...
OK, I love Green Day and always will. But is it just me, or do other people besides me find "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life" to be the most depressing song ever written? It was played at my 8th grade graduation a good, long five years ago, and it almost made me cry then. It still makes me cry now. They played it at a co-worker's friend's funeral. I love that song, but it depresses me to death. Vote that this review was helpful if you find that song to be melancholy/depressing... no if you don't. Thanks. I thought this would be a good way of learning if I'm not the only one.

- GREETINGS FROM IRELAND.THIS ALBUM WILL BLOW YOU AWAY........
hey everyone...i bought this album on the same day that i bought Insomniac.Well who would have thought? Green Day actually matured and made probably their most proffessional album to date.Sure we all know their other albums just kicked the worlds @ss but this one is very different.None of the songs sound the same which is somethin you might have noticed in their previous music. There is just somethin about Nimrod that is so different. For instance, who the F**K would have guessed that green day would use harmonica's and trumpets n stuff in their albums like in the songs 'Walking Alone' and 'King for a day'? The song 'Uptight' is fantastic as are 'Hitchin a ride', 'scattered','prosthetic head' 'nice guyz finish last' 'worry rock' and my 2 favourites 'Good Riddance' and 'Haushinka' When them 3 totally awesome dudes play their sh!t you can kiss your sorry @ss goodbye cos this album will blow you away.incase you dont know, there are 17 tracks and they all rock. When i heard the first 7 tracks i thought, well looks like Billie joe has stopped writing fudged up music.then when no. 8 came on i realised i was wrong. The lyrics were so damn crazy they couldn't put them onto the manual.f**ks here and f**ks there talkin bout all sorts of crazy sh!t.I will never hate green day EVEN IF THEY TURN COUNTRY! .In all honesty, Green Day are the best and Nimrod proves it.......
