Review - Amazon.com :
Start with Eddie Vedder's wobbly yowl, add a dose of Pink Floyd-era psychedelics and rootsy slide guitar, then top it off with Beck-like aural treatments, and you get England's critically acclaimed Gomez. Liquid Skin is more forward-looking and a bit less bluesy than its 1998 predecessor, with murky electronic textures and filtered drum machines lurking beneath the melodic surface. The group continues to wear their inspirations on their sleeves at times. "We Haven't Turned Around" sounds like Pearl Jam on a trip to the Dark Side of the Moon, while "Bring It On" cops a groove directly from Bob Marley's "Lively Up Yourself." But unlike too many of its British contemporaries, Gomez seems intent on fusing their classic and contemporary influences into an original sound that will wear well over time. --Rick MitchellCustomer review - 2004-02-19
- You WILL buy this album. You will buy Liquid Skin. You will then pop it into your CD player and turn it up too loud because Hangover starts our rather quiet. You will enjoy both Hangover and Revolutionary Kind. Then Bring It On will come on and you will finally start to get it. Next comes Blue Moon Rising that you will underrate at first, along with Las Vegas Dealer. Brace yourself, because We Haven't Turned Around is next, and it will blow you away. It might take until about halfway through the song when it comes back from a beautiful string interlude with slightly distorted guitars. Then comes Fill My Cup, the overdrive on the bass will intrigue you, but it will not really compare to the album version of Rhythm & Blues Alibi. Next comes Rosalita which can only be described as damn beautiful. California is rather long, but you will be too caught up in it to really notice. Last comes Devil Will Ride, which should just bring about a perfect end to one of the best albums in recent history. You will have just spent almost an hour of your life that you will wish you could get back to and relive, because it will never sound as awe-inspiring as that first time. You will eventually get to know the album like the back of your hand. It will play through your mind all the time, but it will never be able to surprise you as it did that first listen. And you will never be the same.

- If I could only take 10 albums to a deserted island.......this would be the first I'd grab. This CD is a stellar music experience. I discovered Gomez 3 years ago (via Amazon's suggestion list!) and have been head-over-heels in love since then. While I think their production capabilities and overall tightness as a band is evolving -- and shows on In Our Gun -- I love Liquid Skin for its amazing range of vibes that I never tire of settling myself into. There is not a bad song on this CD, period. Every one is original, creative, and feels completely different. These guys are music purists and you can hear it. It also helps that they are witty, have great senses of humor, and are genuine originals (redundancy intended). If you're looking for a truly fresh music experience unlike anything else out there, don't waste another minute and climb on the Gomez trolley NOW!

- Gomez "Bring It On" again........The strength of their debut led me to buy this CD unheard on the day it was released. Liquid Skin cantains fewer "first-listen-likes" than Bring It On (notably Whipping Picadilly and Arrested), but as is often the case, the "growers" are the stronger tracks, and have much more longevity. My recommendation would be to buy Bring It On first if you don't already own it. If you do, then this contains more of the Tijuana Lady type track, and less of the Warm Trombone! Gomez style is rich and varied, but with a definitive style running through their work. Guitar is dominant, but not to the point of tedium, and the rough formed harmony singing reminds me of The Band (albeit at their loosest.) I hope Gomez continue to develop their style, as another album in this vein would probably be overkill. Personally, I am going to make my own Gomez tape, with my 6 favorites from each of the two CDs.

- best of 1999I bought it on a whim, safe in the knowledge that nothing could knock off my personalalbum of the year pick (Things Fall Apart by the Roots) from its pedestal. But as Liquid Skin's eleven tracks slowly unwound, and as my jaw dropped steadily towards the ground, I realized that I was going to have to rethink my rather premature pick. Maybe I'm letting my giddiness about Liquid Skin override my good judgment, but this is quite frankly one of the best rock albums I have ever purchased. Those pasty-faced lads from Gomez had me sucked in by the first chorus of Hangover, and it just got better from there. Revolutionary Kind has some of the best multiple guitar interplay I've heard, and Las Vegas Dealer is a fun song to crank when you're driving (over the speed limit, preferably). In addition, Rosalita (which sounds like what might happen if the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam got together for a laid-back jam session) is THE sad, beautiful, tongue-in-cheek song of the year. But the album's highlight in my mind is its closer, Devil Will Ride, a song I wish could close every rock album I bought from here on out. It's that perfect. I've always enjoyed songs that make you sing along even if you have no idea what the singer is saying. I still can't imagine what might make someone dislike this album as much as some of the reviewers here, but if you like good, intelligent guitar rock with a little bit of experimentation, Liquid Skin by Gomez will not disappoint.

- This album changed my life..!My first year of college, my roommate introduced me to this band called Gomez, a group one of his friends recommended to him. 'Liquid Skin' was in constant rotation in our cd player during parties, hangouts, chill time, whenever. Before I knew what this stuff was, I told him I liked this one song i kept hearing (turned out to be 'we still haven't turned around). After the year ended, i bought the album as soon as i got home, and got two of my friends hooked on it too. I guess you could say I got hooked on it too, but all three of us have this incredible love for this album, its something you can fall in love with Instantly, no joke, there's something about the musicianship and the lyrics and the so-friggin-chill sound of this band. It's great for driving, hanging out, whenever. And the best part is that this album kicks [butt] from track 1 to the end, EVERY single song is amazing. The music goes right through my body and man does it feel good. It's great to wake up to, fall asleep to, party to, smoke to, drive to, its just absolutely incredible. If you play it a couple of times when you're with friends, they'll be asking you about this band in no time, its so easy to get hooked on it. I highly recommend this album to ANYONE, I can't say much else about it- the music speaks for itself.
