Review - Amazon.com :
This CD is a sort of Reader's Digest version of George Winston's renowned solo piano discography. All the Seasons presents 13 abridged selections from Winston's seven solo recordings-- "radio edits" that were supervised, as the liner notes indicate, by the pianist himself. Four "bonus tracks" are also included, and two are quiet, impressionistic gems that compare favorably with Winston's classic Autumn to December period. "Sandman" is an instrumental version of a section from the Meryl Streep-narrated storybook album The Velveteen Rabbit, and "Northern Plains" is a hushed, contemplative jewel, though its abrupt conclusion is a bit odd. Perhaps this, too, is an advanced edit of a piece that will someday be more fully realized. Ultimately, this album is best-suited for listeners unacquainted with Winston's work, since fans are likely to be dismayed when favorites such as "Colors/Dance" and "Joy" travel to unexpected places. For Winston neophytes though, the album offers a decent overview of his first 25 years of recording. --Terry WoodCustomer review - 2000-08-05
- George at his finest"All the Seasons of George Winston," is an intelligently selected anthology of the highlights of his many studio albums. If it has a drawback, it is that some of the songs are shortened edits of much longer songs from the original albums. The most notable example of this is on "Colors/Dance," originally from the album "Autumn," that is cut down from over ten minutes to about three and a half. Nevertheless, this album is a good place for someone just starting to get into George Winston's music to start. He plays the piano like no other working musician today. Once it has whetted your appetite, you are sure to want to go for more of his original albums. For that I would recommend "Autumn" and "Summer" most highly.

- Introductory Winston-Buy The Original Albums InsteadThese are edited versions of George's best music. You would be better served by getting the original albums starting with Autumn and December. The moods he develops come out better in the context of the album as a whole rather than as the individual song cuts.

- This is a good starter George WinstonIf you are new to G. Winston music, and would like a sampler, this is a good one. It has a variety of songs from his albums. There are also a few tracks from the Plains CD. However, his CD's make musical sense all the way from beginning to end, and that is missing in this CD. He tells stories, and this CD just gives you the bits of his stories. Still, it is a great place to start.

- Terrific for a samplerThese are well edited radio cuts of George Winston's work. For pure solo piano that isn't drowned out by orchestra or diluted by vocals and other musicians, I don't think George Winston can be beat. However, this album is for new listeners more than long time followers. True, there are four added cuts, one a new and live version of "The Cradle". However, many are shortened and therefore disappointing to his core audience. Again, if you're new to George Winston's music, this is a great starting point.

- George 'Win'stonThis cd is one of George Winston's best works, and if you aren't especially familiar with this artist, this would be a great starter. One thing I like about it is that it has many styles. For example, some of the scores are peaceful and soothing which can calm your nerves. There are also peices which are up-beat and fast moving which can get you going for the day(works for me!). But, if you don't especially like piano music, I suggest you don't buy it. There was this one guy who hated piano music, but he bought the cd, and what do ya know: he hated it! Big surprise huh? Anyway, you be the judge. If you are piano-lover and you want to dive into Gearge Winston's works, this cd would be one of the best to do so. Happy Listening!Ü
