| Jack White had a run-in with a mic stand at last night’s White Stripes gig at Wallingford, CT’s Chevrolet Theater. According to a fan who attended the show, during the encore performance of “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself” White was swaying around onstage and backed into one of his microphone stands set up near Meg’s drum set. The stand crashed into the singer-guitarist’s back, injuring him severely enough that he limped through the next two minutes “playing one-handed, holding his back with the other and occasionally using it to strum.” After the song he thanked the audience and left without returning for the duo’s standard closing songs, “Boll Weevil” or “Seven Nation Army.” Of course, this isn’t the first time a mic stand has turned into a rock & roll weapon. Gary Glitter accidentally knocked one into Roger Daltrey’s eye during rehearsals for a 1996 U.K. charity show. Courtney Love famously wielded one at an ill-fated New York City gig in 2004 and Pete Doherty did the same in 2006. An Everlast show ended with a mic-stand attack in 2001, and a security guard was slammed in the head by a wayward stand at a Nine Inch Nails show in 2005. |
