Julio (sung to Elvis Costello's Alison)

For info and links to all 5 of our special ed videos, go to this playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E737FD13FA0183B8 We recorded these songs at the height of my interest in Elvis Costello's music which explains why I borrowed three of his songs. "Alison" is of course one of Elvis's first and biggest hits. Almost every class, Prof. Kolar showed a video; many were case studies. And for every case study, she'd introduce the video by saying something like "You'll never forget [insert name of the featured kid]." One that she seemed especially enthralled with was a kid named Julio, so here's my tribute to a fictional Julio. The music for this song is entirely from an Alison MIDI file I found on the internet that I edited and mixed to play through my old Korg X3. I think I recorded the vocals "live" overtop of the music using my church's sound system. This video was filmed in the "backyard" of our 2-bedroom apartment in Alt Stone Bridge off of Heatherdowns near its intersection with Reynolds on a snowy afternoon. My hood is up not to keep my head warm but to conceal the headphones I'm wearing that are piping in the music I'm lip-syncing to. The action is obviously random and unscripted and shot in one take filmed by my wonderful, non-cinematographer wife. I hope you like the song despite the lousy video, no offense honey. :) Julio (sung to Elvis Costello's "Alison") Oh it's so hard to try to think of all that you've been through Things just haven't ever come that easy for you I know you're smart, above-average I.Q. But I'm puzzled at the things you can't do I'm not gonna give up on you yet There's a lot more information to get I'm gonna call for a meeting of the minds To see if you fall under PL 94-142 Julio, I know this class is hard for you Julio, I will help you Now I know you've got dyslexia So I know that means sometimes the words look backwards to you It doesn't mean that you're lazy or dumb Reading just takes longer for you Sometimes I wish that I could stop your disability From affecting the way you feel about yourself But I can't do that so I'll make adaptations To give you back a fighting chance
