Een overweldigende kruising van AC/DC, The Clash en Ierse folk. De belangrijkste erfgenamen van The Pogues. Dropkick Murphys, het zevental uit Boston, intens verbonden aan de Ierse gemeenschap aldaar, staat garant voor feestelijke punk. Hun eerste album ‘Do Or Die’ verscheen in 1998. De albums ‘The Gangs All Here’ (99) en ‘Sing Loud, Sing Proud’ (01) zorgden voor de doorbraak. Dropkick Murphys toerden succesvol de wereld rond. ‘The Meanest Of Time’ (07) is hun jongste wapenfeit. Een nieuw album is in de maak. Gefluisterd wordt dat dit rond de volgende St Patrick’s Day – de nationale feestdag van alle Ieren waar ook ter wereld – zal verschijnen.
Live staan Dropkick Murphys garant voor geweldige concerten. Tijdens Rock Werchter en Pukkelpop waren ze meermaals verantwoordelijk voor memorabele openluchtfeesten bij daglicht. In zaal zijn ze nog intenser. Getuige hiervan hun doortocht in de AB in april 2008. Vrijdag 29 januari is het lichtontvlambare punkgezelschap opnieuw in ons land om de Lotto Arena in vuur en vlam te zetten.

Wat begon als een vriendenclubje uit een Iers-katholieke arbeidersbuurt in Boston dat muziek maakt voor de lol, is uitgegroeid tot een professionele band die speelt op festivals over de hele wereld. Dropkick Murphys start in 1996 in de kelder van een kapperszaak van een vriend. Terwijl ze opklimmen van Ierse pubs naar festivalpodia bouwen ze een ijzersterke livereputatie op.
De band is geïnspireerd door groepen als Stiff Little Fingers, The Pogues en AC/DC. Hun eigen unieke stijl laat zich het beste omschrijven als ‘folkcore’: een kruisbestuiving tussen Amerikaanse punk, Ierse folk, rock en hardcore. De laatste keer dat Dropkick Murpheys hun folkcore naar Nederland brachten was op Lowlands 2008, waar zij binnen de kortste keren de Alpha tent op zijn kop zetten.
