La historia de Eagles comienza cuando Glenn Frey (cantante, guitarrista y compositor) y su amigo Don Henley (batería y cantante) se unen a la banda que acompañaba a Linda Ronstadt en la grabación de su disco "Silk Purse". Tras dos años de colaborar con dicha banda, ambos deciden abandonarla para crear su propio grupo. Para ello invitan a los músicos Bernie Leadon (cuerda) y Randy Meisner (bajo) a participar en el proyecto. A ellos se les unieron posteriormente Joe Walsh (guitarra y coros), Don Felder (guitarra) y Timothy B. Schmit (bajo). The Eagles debutaron en 1972, rescatando el sonido sureño, mezclándolo con un exquisito toque de guitarra y un toque de rock un tanto suave, además de pinceladas de country y western.
