I was thrilled that Buddha Records finally reissued Heartbreaker. From start to finish, it is a perfect album. My only little complaint about the reissue is that they didn't do bonus tracks of the 12 inch disco mixes of Baby I'm Burnin' and I Wanna Fall In Love. Other than that, it is perfect. Now, if they would reissue New Harvest First Gathering, Great Balls of Fire and Dolly, Dolly, Dolly it would make my day.

This is perfect for fans of Dolly who don't like music too country. It may be considered a "sell-out" for the die hard country fans, but if you like nice ballets and cool
pop back ground music it's perfect. Timeless as well, they could
all (almost all) be released today and not sound old. LOVE the title song and sorry but I like that she did some disco-ish songs, Baby I'm Burning is great! I like the Pop Dolly, if you like "Here you come again" this is along the same lines. If you like "Mule Skinner Blues" then you're one of the "she's a sell-out" crowd and wouldn't like this much. Us normal fans love this ;)

From the tacky cover photo, to the embarrassingly awful "Baby I'm Burning," this album ranks as perhaps the absolute nadir of Parton's career. Dolly herself has admitted that she had to record music she didn't really like in order to make a living, but there is absolutely no reason why anyone needs to be reminded of this today. To be avoided at all costs.

Finally, Heartbreaker is available on CD... I almost wore out my vinly record. I bought this disc at the same time as her , "The Grass is Blue" cd. Definitely in the opposite direction.... which is good! (Both are great CD's for different reasons.) No, this cd isn't country; it is really pop music circa 1978. What is amazing is that Dolly can cover so many diverse musical genres. For me, this is what makes her such a great artist. Equally amazing is the fact that Dolly not only sings different genres on this record, but she also wrote and co-produced many of these songs ("With You Gone", "Baby, I'm Burnin'", "I Wanna Fall in Love"). The title track is definitely stunning with her shimmering soporano. The final track is flat-out funky! (Was Dolly the first white girl to do rap instead of Deborah Harry of Blondie? ). I agree with James' review.... I wish the re-release also included her extended dance remixes of "Baby, I'm Burnin'" and "I Wanna Fall in Love." Critics may complain about her pop recordings, but in all fairness, her pop records were extremely well-produced and consistent. (Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for her early "great" country records which can be somewhat uneven).

I can't wait for the reissues of "New Harvest...First Gathering", "Great Balls of Fire," and "Dolly, Dolly, Dolly." It is interesting that some 20 years after the release of this album, Dolly released dance remixes of "Peace Train", "Two Doors Down" and "Walking on Sunshine".

When Buddha records announced they were going to remaster some of Dolly's old albums back in 1999, I was hoping they would do some of her albums that are not available on CD or very hard to find. Luckily, HEARTBREAKER was one of the ones they chose to remaster and release on CD. HEARTBREAKER is when Dolly was still crossover, into pop and disco, but still maintaining its country roots. The 10 songs are what you'd expect from Dolly, touching songs about life and relationships, the simpler things in life.

The album opens with the midtempo ballad "I Really Got The Feeling". It's a touching song backed with a orchestra rich in symphony. "It's Too Late To Love Me Now" is a sorrowful ballad in which Dolly injects enough emotion to support the song. "We're Through Forever ('Til Tomorrow)" is another inspiring love ballad. "Sure Thing" has attitude, and its a great quirky fun song. "With You Gone" has a catchy chorus, its irresistibly fun to sing along with. The disco anthem "Baby I'm Burnin" is also here, it's classic Dolly. "Nickles and Dimes" and "The Man" are both interesting songs with nice instruments, and vocals from Dolly. "Heartbreaker" is very sad, a sad delivery from Dolly, definately a classic. "I Wanna Fall In Love" is a fun upbeat disco song, it was the bside to "Baby I'm Burnin".

Overall HEARTBREAKER isn't what the title implies, its for the most part a fun upbeat album, with some sad songs, but overall its classic Dolly.
