Review - Amazon.com :
The legendary diva's return to recording after a four-year break is an opportunity for young music buyers to rediscover some of Warwick's classic hits in totally different musical settings and for faithful fans to enjoy the warmth of Warwick's vocals on some strong new material. While Burt Bacharach and Hal David songs like "Walk On By" and "I Say a Little Prayer" don't have the punch of the original '60s versions, Warwick's zesty take on "Always Something There to Remind Me" is worth the price of the whole album. With South African singer-guitarist Jonathan Butler as a guest, the much-recorded tune becomes a festive celebration. Equally upbeat is a salsa version of "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" complete with Latin-music giants Celia Cruz and Pete Escovedo. An R&B-slanted take on "Reach Out for Me," another of Warwick's '60s classics, features the Emotions and El DeBarge. Warwick aficionados will love glorious new ballads like "High upon This Love" and "Love Begins with You." A diverse album that marks a delightful return for the pop and soul songstress. --David NathanCustomer review - 2003-09-11
- IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE LATE CELIA CRUZ YOU GOT TO HAVE THISHaving never owned a Dionne Warwick album and only listened to a few of her hits I discovered this album while cruising my Big Lots store. Hours later I popped the album into my cd player and boy was i shocked at how much Dionne has changed and her style is very unique unlike many artists. Here's my review of Dionne Sings Dionne, 1. Walk On By, This version sounds exactly to a T like Melissa Manchester's version that she recorded on her 1989 album Tribute but in my mind love the 90's version of it and Dionne does an nice job, 2. Love Begins With You, Wonderful new ballad that Dionne wrote herself that is very very nicely sung, 3. Reach Out For Me , Featuring El Debarge De Barge and The Emotions. Dionne's version of this song is nicely written and has good lyrics but the one thing that bothers me is that this version sounds too darn much like El Debarge's 80's hit The Rhythm of The Night but who can argue, 4. High Upon This Love, This fantastic ballad also serves as the love theme from CBS's The Bold and The Beautiful and who better than Dionne to sing a soap opera love theme. Even though i'm not a Soap Opera fanatic this song appeals to me much, 5. I say a little Prayer, Dionne turns this Hal David classic into r&b flavor by giving it her all another hit from her that you will actually hear the real Dionne, 6. Always something there to remind me, A duet with African jazz artist Jonathan Butler. Dionne takes on this classic and complete with a Keb'Mo like sound and Jonathan's African lilt makes this song click. Little did I know that this song was an 80's hit made me surprised., 7. If I Want To, A song about not giving up and having your faith in you when can't try. Dionne sings with passion in every word and that is why it's one of my favorite songs, 8. Aquarela Do Brazil, Sung In Portuguese and English Dionne performs this Brazillian Anthem with soothing vocals and unique beats. I myself do not know Portuguese but I still like this track, 9. I promise you, This new ballad written exclusively for the cd is so nicely done by Dionne and she and the DWB are so talented, 10. Be my neighbor, This wonderful ballad marks the Debut of singer Tyrese and he and Dionne make a good pair singing together, 11. All Kinds of people, Dionne sings this song with goodness about caring about other people. However the only thing about this song is the Reach Out bridge at the end gives me a headache, 12. What the world needs now, WEAK WEAK WEAK Dionne does an horrible version of this song with a ton of rappers and to me they are the stars of this version not Dionne. This track I skip and am not pleased with, 13. Do You know the way to San Jose, Featuring the late Celia Cruz Dionne turns this classic into a fun salsa beat. I don't know why I love this song so much but it ranks as my favorite Dionne song And Celia's vocals are a laugh. The main reason to buy this album. AZUCAR, 14. Humbly I Pray, Power gospel a first gospel hit for Dionne, Dionne followed this with Dionne Sings Dionne II that is released only in Japanese Markets and Asian countries. It's really a shame that Dionne hasn't had a new cd since. But until listen with your heart

- Another great Dionne Warwick CD!!Usually re-recordings of old classics are a big mistake, however on this recording Dionne's new versions of some of her greatest hits are fresh and appealing. "Walk On By" is close to the original with the only difference being Dionne's richer vocal. "I Say A Little Prayer" is brought bang up to date with a new rhythmic arrangement. Stand out new songs finding Dionne in superb voice include the duet with Tyrese, "Be My Neighbour", the George Duke produced "If I Want To" plus "Love Begins With You". There is a great new version of "Do You Know The Way to san Jose" with Celia Cruz, one of Latin music's most respected vocalists and ten-time Grammy nominee. I can recommend this great 14 track cd to all Dionne fans old and new. It's great value and a great addition to her huge catalogue.

- "Dionne Sings Dionne" - A Gift For Us"Dionne Sings Dionne" is definately a present from Dionne to me and to you, my fellow "true" fans with whom I am in great company."I Say A Little Prayer For You" is redone in a manner that describes this whole album: "Very Dionne-tasteful and elegant-but with a few surprises and a decidedly seductive urban groove-that works." And it works well! Dionne proudly shows off her more than 35 years of musical knowledge, wisdom and absolute artistry on this album. Her voice sizzles with experience in a sultry duet with sexy newcomer,Tyrese in "Be My Neighbor." I clung to her every word and wished she lived next door to me too.(like a watchful mother!)Another highlight is the jubilant and jazzy "Aquarela do Brazil," the title song of her most recent Arista album which contains more smooth, jazzy songs like that. (If you dont have it, I suggest you go get it!)And you cant help but move something in the salsa-tinged,"Do You Know The Way To San Jose," regenerated with Celia Cruz & Pete Escovedo's orchestra. And dont dare miss out on the excitement she generates in the jumpy calyspo-inspired remake of "Always Something There To Remind Me" with favorite,Jonathan Butler. Dionne's gift also includes more wonderfully sung Burt Bacharach songs,"If I Want To" and the classic,"All Kinds Of People." Rounding out "Dionne Sings Dionne" is a straight-ahead gospel ballad entitled,"Humbly I Pray." Every Dionne Warwick will find his or her favorite once again. Thanks Dionne for another lesson well taught in how to make good music then, now, and for the future.

- Great Music from a Great Diva!Ms. Warwick has done it again! How she keeps the quality music products coming, I don't know! This is yet another fine piece of work done for us, by us! My favorite tracks are: Love begins with u; High Upon this love; Aquarela do Brazil and the re-vamped Say a Little Pray (...which deserves 5 stars by itself! ) Hip/Hop tracks are cool and deserves airplay but one should not ignore the other specialites on this album. I know for a fact that this tribute to herself is one of a few parts that will be forthcoming......I CAN'T WAIT! Great album...U GO MS. DIONNE!

- She's back! - But where's the radio support??What a great album! Ms Warwick is back with a very strong set - the lovely "Love Begins With You" and "I Promise You", the fun "Brazil" and "Do You Know the Way to San Jose", and the smooth "I Say A Little Prayer", among other fine cuts. She seems to have put more effort into this one than she has in her other most recent efforts (I hated Friends Can Be Lovers and the Brazilian album). This album marks the first time she's actually BELTED a song in years!! However, there are a couple of disappointments on the album, mainly the hip-hop influenced cuts. I know Ms Warwick likes to embrace all types of music, but she should stick with what she knows best - good, old-fashioned ballads! Also, I'm sure many other fans have noticed that Warwick's voice isn't what it used to be. I don't know if it's age, or if maybe she's a smoker. Whatever the cause, her sound can be a little rough at times, like on "Walk On By." But I quibble. Buy this CD! And call your local radio stations and make them play some of these potential hits! Ms Warwick deserves it!
