Extravagent Gestures |
Customer review - 2001-03-10
- Strong post Scepter workOne of Warwick's more consistent efforts post her Scepter, Bacharach/David glory days. That's What Friends are For holds up the best of the 80s cause songs. Whisper in the Dark is one of her few successful forays into a time's dance music modes. But the gem is the last cut, Extravagent Gestures that reunites her with Burt Bacharach, with a song that probably was the first he wrote exclusively for her in a decade. The lyricist, Sager, is no Hal David, but the song reminds you of all the music lost when Bacharach/David and Warwick fell out in the 1970s.

- Awesome MusicThis is a very fine album of songs from Dionne. I love "Whispers In the Dark", "That's What Friends Are For" and all the other songs. Her voice is strong and sleek throughout! Get this album, you won't regret it!!!

- Very Good StuffDionne, shines as always. Is there is artist who sings so effortfully yet so well. Dionne has always had very few singers who can match her artistry in the music business. This CD, does nothing but help maintain her status as the reigning Queen of smooth Pop!!!

- Pure HeavenSoothing delights for all occasions. Well blended pop and adult contemporary gems. Dionne delivers her usual magic with this release. A safe buy for those wanting something to keep as an evergreen over the years. Not as powerful as her Barry Manilow production but this puts her back on track in being the best in the MOR music genre. A most respectable gift that will be cherished and remembered during special moments.

- Great album! In late 1985,Dionne Warwick graced radio airwaves with THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR. She is joined by three FRIENDS on that song. They are Stevie Wonder whose harmonica begins the song,Gladys Knight and Elton John. MOMENTS AREN'T MOMENTS,written by Wonder, first appeared on the soundtrack from the 1984 film,THE WOMAN IN RED. All the other songs are good. Between this album,1982's HEARTBREAKER and 1987's RESERVATIONS FOR TWO,only this album is still in print in the United States.
