Useless [Remix] |
Customer review - 2000-01-01
- My favorite DM single. The mixes on this cd are fantastic, not your usual mixes that are just fast beats with vocal clips (like Tori Amos' remix albums), these are great songs in and of themselves - it's almost a stand-alone album. I've certainly listened to it more that any other single I've ever had. Every DM fan should have this.

- Very disappointingThis is easily the worst DM I have heard post-1985; some of their early stuff was pretty bad but I just chalk that up to being experimental. I had high hopes too considering 8 mixes, and even videos included on the enhanced CD. Don't get me wrong, I am even a fan of techno and electronica, but these variations are loud and too industrial for my tastes. I admit I bought this single without hearing the originals, but it's really the first Depeche disc I've been so unhappy about. I've tried to sell it but good luck unloading it, they seemed to overproduce this one. Make sure you listen to the samples before you venture on this purchase.

- QuickTime Videos!I bought this CD just for the promise of videos! You get 4 QuickTime movies of their videos: "Barrel of a Gun", "Home", "It's No Good", and "Useless". Each one is about 40 MB. Fair resolution and sound quality. The audio tracks on the CD of Home and Useless are average, nothing outstanding to write "home" about (ha ha). I good value for the fan if you're looking for something different.

- video and sound!!!A very worthwhile purchase because in addition to the mixes of this nice Depechey bit of melodrama called "Home", you also get PC/Mac videos of "It's No Good", "Useless" and "Home" (the "Home" video is superb). "Home" may be the strongest track of the CD "Useless". Vocals are by Martin Gore, whose vocal style is a little more delicate than David Gahan's baratone bellow. The LFO Meant To Be mix uses an undertoe of nice mellow analog synths while the rhythm and Gore's vocals seem to trickle in. The Grantby Mix is very mellow as well with a little baggier percussion, a nice loop is incorporated. Also included is the LP version and four very cool mixes of the track "Useless."
