Review - Yahoo! Music - Craig Rosen :
Now that VH1 and everybody else seems to love the ‘80s, why shouldn’t Cyndi Lauper try yet another comeback? After her last few albums of new, original material failed to connect with the public, Lauper returns to her big ’80s repertoire albeit in stripped-down and guest star-laden form. Surprisingly, this concept–think Unplugged meets Santana’s guest-star gangbang Shaman -- works more times than not. With the exception of Shaggy’s appearance on “All Through The Night” -- which just serves as more of a distraction, rather than an enhancement – guests including Sarah McLachlan, Jeff Beck, and Puffy Ami Yumi all work well with Lauper. In fact, McLachlan upstages Lauper on her 1984 chart-topper “Time After Time.” The most revealing track, however, features only Lauper. “She Bop,” Lauper’s goofy song about dancing with herself, is transformed into a bluesy acoustic dirge, revealing that this girl really isn’t having much fun at all. It proves that sometimes an artist can find new meaning in an old song, even if it takes 20 years.
