Análisis (en inglés) - Amazon.com essential recording :
Cher's recording career has long taken a back seat to her acting pursuits, but with Believe she's back with a vengeance as a throbbing disco diva. Although no fewer than five producers with dance pedigrees are along for the project (including Todd Terry, Junior Vasquez of Madonna fame, and Rob Dickins, who helped resurrect Rod Stewart's ailing career), this is by no means a dance album in the '90s trip-hop sense of the term. Rather, it's a tour de force that summons mid-'70s images of strobe-lighted dance floors, sequined miniskirts, and writhing bodies. In "Power," Cher wails, "Ain't nothing changed much through the years." Not a bad thing in this case, since Cher's star was still rising in the steamy '70s and '80s with a string of hits that included the disco gem "Take Me Home" and the haunting "If I Could Turn Back Time." Although not blessed with much vocal range, Cher knows how to work a song with her trademark sultry, slightly ironic delivery. And she's certainly in fine form on the masterful title track, which is marred only by the intrusive, anachronistic wah-wah vocal effect. --Jaan Uhelszki

- This CD is still great a year later
I bought this CD in December of 1998 after a friend of mine heard it in Europe. I could not stop listening to it--especially the single "Believe." It's been over a year now and "Believe" is still my favorite song. There are many people using the synthesizer on their voices now because of the huge success that Cher had, however, none are as good as what Cher gave us. To all of those who say she is too old or that all the songs are similar I say "get a grip." What does age have to do with whether the music is good? And as for the second comment about everything being the same, I say "it's a dance album stupid." Stop pretending that you're too cool to like Cher and just admit that the songs "Believe," "Strong Enough" and "All or Nothing" are songs that no one can resist dancing to or singing with. Cher will always be around because she keeps re-inventing herself and puts out quality material like "Believe."

- Do you believe in love after love?
I pulled this album out after not listening to it for a couple of years. I honestly forgot that I even owned it. I have to say, it's absolutely hard NOT to like this. The music on here features catchy and addictive melodies that will possibly have you singing along, as well as dance grooves that'll get you jumping. Now, I consider myself an open minded listener, but disco music is the only music I can think of that makes my stomach turn. I say this because some of the music on here incorporates mild disco influences combined with the electronica/dance pop. I may be in a minority when I say that Cher has a voice that nearly sends me to tears. It's emotional, husky, sensual and versatile. Her singing on one of her earlier songs, "After All" (which is probably my all-time favorite romantic ballad) sends chills down my whole body.

Many of the tracks on here deal with the subject of love. Onto some of the tracks. The title track is pretty much a dance/pop classic - at least in my book. The track is catchy, addictive and moving. Once again, I may be in a minority when I say that listening to Cher's vocals pressed up against the spiralling soundscapes give me goosebumps. The song is also triumphant. "All Or Nothing" pretty much has those same trippy, hypnotic electronic effects fronted by Cher's strong vocal presence. "Dov'e L'amore" is a romantic latin-tinged ballad. My friend used to play this track to death, eventually getting slightly on my nerves with this. Now, since he's moved away, and I listen to this track on my own, I love it as well. It could be for either sentimental reasons, me being a subconscious romantic, or I'm just taken by the sensual melodies & vocals -- which are sung in two different languages. "Taxi Taxi" is somewhat cerebral in scope. For one, Cher seems to be hitting ranges that I've never heard her hit before. Secondly, there's an abrupt switch from a major chord to a minor chord (from the same root note), which makes this sound like you've swapped dimensions -- this probably makes no sense. Anyway, this transition takes place from the verse to chorus respectively.

I'm going to be abrupt and end this review right now, given that I think this review is terrible and it'll probably do no justice to Cher or this album. I will say that this album is EXTREMELY addictive, catchy and melodic. Contagious like strep throat would be more like it. Every track on here is great. Recommended for sure!

- Dynamic Cher Makes a Believer Out of Me
Cher is dynamic throughout her "Believe" album. Strong vocals and great production make this one of Cher's best efforts. The album opens with the title track, Billboard's top single in 1999. "Believe" is a soaring dance track sure to be among Cher's signature songs for years to come. The album features a strong cover of "The Power," a song originally recorded by Amy Grant. The singles, "All or Nothing" and "Strong Enough," are pop gems with the latter sounding like a true 1970s disco classic. "Dove L'Amore" is a sensual love song with a great latin beat. The album closes with a remix of the 1987 Cher rock classic, "We All Sleep Alone." It is reworked with a techno dance beat. The song shines almost as much as it did on the 80s Geffen album, "Cher." Indeed from start to finish, "Believe" is the best Cher album since 1989's "Heart of Stone." "Believe" is the perfect foundation for Cher's greatest comeback.

- banality never dies
here we have cher's latest opus--ten tracks of flavorless porno movie background music that would have been laughed off the charts if it had come from just about anyone else. cher's singing remains as hopeless as it always has been--as resonant as cardboard and so tuneless that she might as well be rapping. in someone else's hands the retro chic 70s disco stylings of this disc might have provided some interesting contrapuntal commentary on 90s techno innovations, but cher just doesn't have artistic acumen to make that lead balloon rise even one inch off the ground. some of this stuff is danceable, but so is a k-mart drum machine, which is just about as interesting. from her start in the 3rd rate lounge act, ceasar and cleo, through sonny and cher, greg allman, films and infomercials, cher has waged a relentless, one woman war against the taste and mind of america, proving time and again that p.t. barnum was a genius and a visionary.

- Still on top of the game
She's a key player in the generation that created the "cool" kids today think is their own. She's done it all along the way and always stayed right on top of what was hot...whether what was "hot" was new or not. Limited voice? Plastic bodied? Too old? I bought my first Cher song in 1965 and my most current in 2000. She sounds as powerful and fun as she did 35 years ago. Let's see how many of you are still buying Celine and Fastball and any Britney NEW RELEASES in 2035. Take a look at any photos of Sonny and Cher circa 1966 and tell me what cool looks like in 2000. To trash this incredible force as dated is like calling electricity a quaint idea. Like any great artist, she owes us nothing but gives us her all anyway. Thanks for this latest gift Cher!
