Land Of Hope And Dreams (Live At Madison Square Garden) |
Description :
'Rising' is backed with 'Land of Hope of and Dreams' both live at Madison Square Garden.Customer review - 2002-07-25
- Post-9/11 Spiritual SongThe reviewers who are trashing this song just don't get it. The Born to Run days were over 25 years ago. This song is from a much more mature, introspective artist. It has powerful lyrics reminiscent of how we all felt in the days after 9/11. A great combination of sorrow, pain, and hope.

- Hope not despairDifferent to what I first expected "The Rising" to be, it's not a flat song about resignation and despair but a song with an enormous power in it - the lyrics and the music allow the sadness and empty feelings of the 9/11 attacks, but they turn them instantly into a great feeling of hope. "The Rising" shows us how not to give up but to overcome! It's goosebumping how neatly Bruce Springsteen did his work to encourage the U.S. people and the rest of this free world to "come on up for the rising"! And as Springsteen wrote in "Mary's Place": "My heart stops for this rising..." and it really seems that it does!

- Bruce Rises Again! The first single off the new CD "The Rising" is a great "instant classic" Bruce Springsteen tune. Chock full of all the things you've come to expect from the Boss. Great lyrics, a sing along chorus and a melody that'll stick in your head after one listen. Most of the songs written for the new CD are dealing with Bruce's thoughts and feelings regarding the events of September 11th and the aftermath. No other artist that I'm aware of has touched on the subject matter so poignantly. The best thing about this single and the CD, is it's the first full band recording since "Born In The USA." Come on up for the Rising! You'll be glad you did.

- Here's what happens when a GOOD songwriter addresses 9/11...Bruce's subtle tribute to the heroes of the September 11 attacks resonates more clearly, more appropriately, and in a more heartfelt manner than any of the lame, knee-jerk "we're Americans and we're gonna kick your..." songs we've been innundated with over the past 10 months. "The Rising" is a brilliant testament from one of this century's most talented singer/songwriters. As a bonus, the "Rising" single contains the stunning live version of "Land and Hope and Dreams" from last year's 'Live in NYC' album. In the original concert, this song was played directly after "Born to Run", and hearing the songs side by side, it's clear that the latter is written by the same man as the former--only now he's 25 years older and that much wiser. "Land of Hope and Dreams" brilliantly revisits the same territory as "Born to Run", only whereas the characters in "Born to Run" were running AWAY from lives they wish were better, 25 years later in "Land of Hope and Dreams", those same characters in are now running TO lives that they know will be better. I look forward to hearing the rest of the new album. If what I've heard so far ("The Rising," "Lonesome Day" and "The Fuse") are any indication, this could be one of Bruce's finest.

- Springsteen is Back and Better Than Ever! This song is very catchy and very enjoyable to listen to as well as containing a powerful message of hope. Guitars are very prominent-the E Street Band is awesume. Land of Hope and Dreams was an excellent choice as a companion piece. Cannot wait to here this one at the concert! I only hope Springsteen puts out a music video for this one.
