Bruce Dickinson (born Paul Bruce Dickinson, August 7, 1958 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England) is the lead singer of band Iron Maiden. Previous to Iron Maiden he was a member of Styx (1976) (not to be confused with the American band of the same name), then went on to sing for Speed (1977 - 1978) (not to be confused with the female Japanese pop group of the same name). When Speed split up, he joined Shots, leaving in the summer of 1979 to join Samson. In 1981 he was approached by Steve Harris and Rod Smallwood and asked to audition for Iron Maiden.
