CRASHIN’ WEEK: BWE Hits The Tents In Bryant Park

Ladies and gentlemen, I have very exciting news (to me) to report: I, Michelle Collins, have officially been welcomed into the New York fashion scene with painfully bony albeit open arms. And by "welcomed", I mean: I, Michelle Collins, managed to weasel my way into two fashion shows last night as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York's Bryant Park. Here's how it went down: A friend of mine from college works for a worldwide company that sponsors Fashion Week. Yesterday, sort of out of the blue, he rang and was like "OMG Come to the tents tonight!!1!" Now, attending Fashion Week had long been a dream of mine, ever since I was at my goal weight of 9 pounds 11 oz. when I came out of my mother's womb. So I was a little disappointed to realize that, on the one day this dream was finally about to come true, this is the outfit I was wearing: (Artist's Interpretation) Not exactly the ahnsambh I had in mind, especially when I got there and realized people were dressed like this and this: Nevertheless, I still made my way to a special backstage suite created by the W Hotels, which offered delicious blood orange screwdrivers and lingering hand massages in an effort to promote one of Bliss's new orangey lotions. Now, even though I was dressed like the little boy in Willy Wonka, I also found that being a taller lady (and one who eats anywhere from 3 to 14 meals per day, mind you) was finally a huge advantage (pun intended). Oh, hello tall person! You must do something tall related. So I didn't let my J. Crew circa 2001 outfit get me down when my friend offered to take me to one of the tent shows, for a designer called Ports 1961. Getting in was no problem. And there I was, ME, standing amidst the most judgmental, stank-faced people in the country. Suddenly, there was a small media commotion around one young lady, who smiled and took it all in stride.
