- Good collection, old fashioned sound quality
I must admit, the sound quality of this cd is pretty amateurish for today's standards. But other than that, I believe there is no better value for 21 great Bob Marley songs. These songs are the ones that define Bob as a rebel and a freedom fighter, where as his other compilations like the popular "Legend" album focuses alot on his songs dealing with love (which isnt wrong at all). I actually find the sound quality sorta pleasing, it sounds alot like an old warm turntable. For 7 bucks, this is def a good buy. Perfect to play when you're relaxing on those summer nights or when your buddies are over hanging out!

- Bob Marley songs
This is one of the cd's I always come back to, among other Bob Marley albums I always come back to. I don't know if these songs can be found with better sound quality.

- Low-Fi!
I'd like to preface my review by saying:

In 1964, Millie Small recorded a Ska mega-success "My boy lollipop" in London England, it sounds really good and polished and I think it is largely because it was recorded with state of the art equipment, a far cry from what was probably used by Bob Marley at Studio 1 and with Trojan. You can tell the difference, even Desmond Dekker's "Israelites" recorded in '69 is still a bit short of Millie's hit record per sound quality and Desmond Dekker and the Aces' song again charted well on the US and English billboard charts.

I say that because these types of Bob Marley issues are numerous and have been around for years, even when he was alive in cassette form and surely too, vinyl. I don't let the "low-fi" bother me, it adds to the ambience some. One can say, it sounds in such a such way but I don't dock this release for that reason when I see it on a few other artist's releases as well (Trojan boxsets anyone?).

Now, I do have a Heartbeat official release of early Wailers music and yes, they do a great and illustrious job with digitally remastering or reissuing the material. I may at some point seek to get the official versions of all of these songs, but it does make me wonder, "why then, are these recordings sold on Amazon and by other commercial retailers?" if someone says, hey, these are bootlegs! One should check out how many of these kinds of releases by obscure record/cd companies there really are at the allmusic guide. Pick one song like say "Soul Shakedown Party", it might be on over a hundred releases not counting multi-artist type compilations. By the way, one can hear the same sort of sound quality discussed earlier on the Trojan "Reggae Pulse" releases.

But like I said, I don't want anyone to be denied their rightful royalties, but these kinds of releases are rather readily available and priced reasonably. I'm not sure if I can easily find Peter Tosh singing "You can't do that to me" on some of the JAD editions, but it is on here. It may be there, but I might have to really run it down as to what disc it is on!

"Soul Captive", "Soon Come", these are great songs and on this CD. I've heard enough of the "low-fi" that it doesn't phase me much at all, in fact, being an ol' Skatalites fan, it kind of adds to it!

- Bootleg
This is an illegal bootleg release. Buy 'The Complete Bob Marley & the Wailers 1967-1972', parts 2 and 3 (from JAD Records) or Bob Marley & The Wailers albums from Trojan Records instead, if you want to have the songs on this album. JAD's and Trojan's releases are legal, and the sound quality is often much better on their albums. Also, if you buy the box sets from JAD, part of the money will go to the Bob Marley and Peter Tosh families and Bunny Wailer (the three original Wailers).
