- So shave your face with some mace in the dark
I bought this CD Single simply for the simple reason that I loved the song, "LOSER"(at that time I was not a big Beck fan...I would come to my senses though and that changed). The lyrics to this song are simply beyond brilliant! This is the song that made the world aware of one of the best artists in the music industry today.

"CORVETTE BUMMER" has got a really good beat to it, while "ALCOHOL" has a cool pace to it and for the majority, is similar to MELLOW GOLD's "BLACKHOLE".

This version of "SOUL SUCKIN' JERK" is not a remix of the one you hear on MELLOW GOLD. More like just a different approach to the song using the same lyrics, but in a different music style. That, and it's a much longer version than the album version.

"FUME" is a great song. Awesome beat, great lyrics, and as usual with Beck and his last song, he has a little wait before going crazy on a melody.

I highly recommend this CD single to any Beck fanatic AND any music lover wanting to experiment!

- Rockin' the town like a moldy crouton!
Great deal for this EP. It's pretty common, so if you haven't picked it up already, you probably aren't a huge Beck fan. All 4 unreleased tracks are excellent. The standout is the remix of "soul suckin' jerk". It's sbout twice as long with the original with extra verses and additional instrumentation thrown into the mix. It's really not a remix at all, just a different version. "Fume" chronicles a joyride complete with the two things no traveler should be without: nitrous and molly hatchet. All songs would easily fit on to "Mellow Gold", and prominently feature Beck's pop sensibilities. That's it. It's only 5 songs, so that's all I'm writing. Buy it. It's worth it. Thank you. Good Night.

- Gonna fly like a dog..
This EP is absolutely perfect, I bought this based on hearing "Loser" on the radio again recently, and the best song on here has to be "Corvette Bummer", can't see why it failed to get on the album."Gonna walk around this town with a can of whiskey, gonna fly like a bird..", and the reject version of "Soul Suckin' Jerk" is also superior to "MellowGold"'s version. "Fume" is also awesome, "Smokin' broken pencils and drinkin' a Coke" will make you just crack up. Put this one in your cd changer in your trunk for sure.

- two versions
Evidently, there are 2 versions of this single. I bought one way back in the day which has LOSER on it, accompanied by CORVETTE BUMMER and these two other UNBELIEVABLE songs! TOTALLY CONFUSED, a mellow song with (get this) a female back up singer, and one of Beck's greatest songs of all time--MTV MAKES ME WANT TO SMOKE CRACK, where Beck tears it up on the piano. You need to find this version of the single as well, because the songs on this particular version are really cool, but having a Beck collection at your home without MTV MAKES ME WANT TO SMOKE CRACK is like showing up at church naked...it's UNSPEAKABLE!

- The Birth of a Genius
This EP is a true gem. Other reviewers here have sung its praises well, but most have suggested it was released (or should be considered) as suplimentary material to Mellow Gold. This EP apeared before Mellow Gold, and its vision should be credited for MG and Beck's popular breakthrough. Most of these tracks were recorded in an amateur studio, written and performed by an artist who was hitherto a nearly homeless outsider in the Indie scene in LA. On this disk you will hear a Beck with the dazzling lyrical inventiveness and surefooted rhythm that he has become known for, but little of the pretentiousness and bloated overproduction that releases like Midnight Vultures have earned him. Lest we forget, Beck's arrival marked a breakthrough for whiteboy hiphop nearly as significant as the Beastie Boys. This EP marks that emergence and thus will always sound revolutionary to me. This disk is loaded with significance and the artist seems to know it. Behind the laughing-up-his-sleeve bravado, the Beck of the Loser EP is exploding with the urgency of this new vision. It continues to astound me.
