Beach House is a dream pop group which formed in 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The group consists of Victoria Legrand (vocals, organ) and Alex Scally (guitar, keyboards). Legrand is the niece of french composer Michel Legrand. The group has released three albums: 2006's "Beach House", 2008's "Devotion" and "Teen Dream" in early 2010. Within a year of formation, the group charmed indie music enthusiasts across the blogosphere with their languid songcraft, while the eerie warmth of "Apple Orchard" landed on Pitchfork's Infinite Mixtape MP3 series in August 2006. |

Beach House
De dromerige folkpop van Beach House wordt gekenmerkt door zwoele orgeltjes, dromerige gitaarpartijen en hypnotiserende drumsamples. De muziek klinkt sereen, vredig en schitterend als een zonsopgang op een verlaten strand. De band bestaat uit Française Victoria Legrand en Amerikaan Alex Scally, die samen vanuit Baltimore hun muziek de wereld in strooien. In 2008 kwam hun tweede album uit. ‘Devotion’ is de naam van de plaat, waarop het intrigerende duo de luisteraar meeneemt naar een sprookjesachtig dromenland. Scally neemt de gitaarpartijen voor zijn rekening en Legrand speelt toetsen, waarbij ze zingt als Nico, maar dan met een wellustig Frans accent. Dit jaar kwam ‘Teen Dream’ uit, het derde album van Beach House.
Isbells
'Isbells' is het in november 2009 verschenen debuut van de Belgische band Isbells. Bij het luisteren komt er ondubbelzinnig maar één woord boven: bloedmooie herfstplaat, oké twee woorden dus. Maar wonderschone, sobere folknummers zijn het die frontman Gaëtan Vandewoude met zijn bandleden Naima Joris, Bart Borremans en Gianni Marzo speelt. En herfstig dus, op dezelfde manier als Nick Drake, Bon Iver, José Gonzales en Elliot Smith dat kunnen. Akoestische gitaar, melancholieke blazers hier en daar, engelachtige zang, verkleurende herfstbladeren, open haard, glas single malt erbij en het leven is perfect. Gaëtan Vandewoude maakt al vijftien jaar muziek. Hij speelde drum en gitaar bij de rockbands Soon en Ellroy, alvorens hij met Isbells de omslag maakte naar bloedmooie folk.
