Review - Amazon.com Music Reviews :
Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds is pop's best melodic writer since the heyday of Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney. On The Day, Babyface makes that connection explicit by cowriting "How Come, How Long" with Wonder, who also contributes a duet vocal, a harmonica solo, and longtime bassist Nathan East to the session. Even more impressive is the fact that the eight songs Babyface wrote for The Day without his hero's help also boast yearning melodies and ear-opening chord changes that are absolutely Wonder-ful. --Geoffrey Himes

- This is THE DAY :)
Kenneth Edmonds sure knows how to write a song. This is a very nice album. It contains lots of love songs and a few meaningful songs. This album has a relaxed feel to it. I hope anyone who wants to buy this is not expecting Babyface to have party starters on here, no no. This album is more suited for a romantic evening with your baby.
"The Day", the album's title track, is a song about the day Tracey Edmonds told Babyface she was pregnant with their first child, Brandon. This song is very sweet, the only instrument being Babyface on the piano. The song is heartfelt, and the listener knows that this song is not just a song, it is an experience. "Simple Days" is an album highlight. It's a pretty slow song about life back in the day. Babyface tries to keep up with the younger r&b artists with "All Day Thinkin'" and "This is for the Lover in You". "This is for the Lover in You" features Jody Watley, Howard Hewitt and LL Cool J. it's a nice song and it was released. "Seven Seas" is one of the best love songs ever. Babyface is letting his woman know that there is nothing he wont do for her. I love it! "How Come, How Long" has a truly important message: if you are experiencing domestic violence, remove yourself from the situation before it's too late. It is definitely something young people of today needed to hear. I like this album.

- The Most Personal R & B Album
The Day is something truly special. Many ballad albums fail to reach the depth that this album reaches. Babyface reaches deep into his soul for this one.

Never has there (in my humble opinion) ever been any artist that has recorded an album that so personal. The ballads are full of meaning and the acoustic sound Face went for on this album is so beautiful. How Come, How Long is one of Stevie's best works in the 90s and the theme is so sad.

Best of all would be the most personal songs on the album: Simple Days and The Day. The Day in particular is so emotionally charged. It almost brings me to tears everytime I hear the line: "It's like a song I've never heard, I've never sung but know the words." Just amazing

- Essence of what you want in melodic ballads and love songs.
I loved it. I listen to it over and over again. It reminds you of the days when the sex was implied not overt and your imagination could take over rather than raw explicit lyrics.
