- Dutch Rock Goddess
The woman can sing, and she isn't afraid to tell you how it really is. Anouk is just oozing with talent, whether is it screaming or serenading with a ballad. "Together Alone" is one of her best CDs, and if you like it, you definitely need her "Urban Solitude" CD. One of the best musicians to ever come out of the Netherlands (in my opinion), and a Dutch rock goddess. Also check out K's Choice if you like Anouk. You won't be disappointed.

- Updated powerful modern melodic rock
When I first heard the CD I thought that it was a new release from Saraya who had a minor hit in the early 90's with "Love Has Taken Its Toll," but it turned out that it was a Dutch singer named Anouk. She has a powerful, bluesy and melodic voice that doesn't get stale when listening to this updated version of 90's bar rock/metal. The songs are well crafted, and the production is similarly very good, which makes the CD an absolute pleasure to listen to. The CD is already three years old, but it still sounds fresh, honest, and true to its influences. Make no mistake, this CD doesn't really tread new ground, but it does what it does very well.

- By far, the worst album I have bought in the last 5 years
I often go browsing through music shops, looking for something different, unusual or undiscovered. Anouk's album, "Together Alone" was one such find. I did a brief search to find some info on her and although I couldn't (at the time) find any sound samples, I did find a handful of gushing reviews that suggested a performer with depth, a unique style and good material. So I bought it. Big mistake. With most stuff I've found a let-down, I've adopted the policy of saying nothing rather than something vitriolic, but I'm taking the chance to make the exception for this awful drivel.

The music and songs are stuck in a mid-80's-big-hair-MTV-rock-music-time-warp. The production has been lavished to such an extent as to present a bland and banal wall of sound. The lyrics are dire, and poor Anouk, while having a powerful voice, has no distinguishing characteristics in her voice to differentiate her from countless other female vocalists of the past. It's contrite, contrived and utterly soulless; if you can find some sort of spiritual uplift from listening to something as shallow as this, you must be very easily pleased. I've tried to like this one, I really have. I've looked for its merits numerous times but even listening to it involves more effort than I can muster - life's too short. I rarely hate anything the way I've come to dislike this album so intensely, but music this dull should never be allowed to get out of the confines of the studio.

Anouk is a very striking looking woman. Maybe that's where the appeal is. It's not in the music, that's for sure.

- You won't be disappointed
I bought this cd after seeing the video for "Nobody's Wife".

Her musical style is unique and stands out amoung the many Dutch artists. The follow-up album, "Together Alone" is more mature musically and lyrically. If you can, get your hands on a special release single "Break Down the Wall" or the cover of Live's "I Alone" with K's Choice. You won't be disappointed.

- This One is Hot!
Anouk comes across as the kind of B-I-T-C-H who, after you've given her your best in the sack, gives you a nasty look and says: "Is that all?" This woman has an attitude that evokes Joan Jett, and her music bests that of JJ.
From the title track, in which Anouk hollers that she'll "never be nobody's wife!", this woman oozes with a seductive sexual energy. The fact that Anouk is mesmerizingly torrid, and the booklet that comes with the CD is chock full of her in titillating poses (I can just imagine adolescent boys spending hours holding the booklet up with one hand), doesn't mean that she is substituting sex appeal for talent: This woman has it all!
"It's So Hard" is the most outstanding cut on a cd full of outstanding cuts. Buy this compact disc and you'll agree that Anouk is the best thing to come out of the Netherlands since the Van Halen brothers (Eddie and Alex, that is).
