Review - Amazon.com :
On his first studio album in three years, No Es Lo Mismo ("It's Not the Same"), Spanish superstar Alejandro Sanz expands his musical horizons in hopes of reaching a bigger Stateside audience. Already an accomplished songwriter (he wrote tracks for Ricky Martin's and Alexandre Pires' current albums) Sanz co-produced No Es Lo Mismo with Cuban musician Lulo Perez, and the new collaboration gives much of the album a crisp, fresh sound. Still grounded in the lush rhythms of flamenco, Sanz adds rock, earthy instrumentation, and even rap to the mix, with mostly impressive results. The first single and title track builds to a rousing crescendo amid solid percussion and vocal support, while Sanz amusingly dabbles in hip-hop on the bilingual "Try To Save Your S'ong." However, love ballads and social themes are trademarks of Sanz's repertoire, and there are enough of both here to satisfy longtime fans and pique new listener interest. --Joey Guerra

- "No Es Lo Mismo" es la verdad...
This CD is the absolute best CD I have listened to in a long time. I bought this album, having not heard any previous music by Alejandro Sanz. Boy I am glad I did buy it! It is continuously played in my car and also in my computer music library. With Alejandro it's all about the passion he puts into the lyrics. He is an excellent songwriter. The songs on this CD are uplifting at times and slow and beautiful also. My favorite tracks include, "Eso", my absolute favorite about his heartwrenching plea for understanding of a love that once was, and also "Lo Dire Bajito" and "Al Olvido Invito Yo" both beautifully written. Every track stands out. Buy this CD and you won't regret it. The title makes sense because "It's not the same" as Alejandro's previous albums and that's what makes it so great. He can be so diverse in his music but still capture the true essence about why he is such a powerful musician/songwriter and a prominent figure in Latin music today.

- the most original talent spanish/latin music has ever seen!
If you dont know this man who sings a variety of music from ballads to rock to pop to a flamenco type of essence now is your time to sample this mans extreme talent. Just an outstanding human being with a talent that no one else can ever match. His raspy voice that sings along his guitar sends a sense of emotion through your spine whether you undertand the lyrics sung in spanish or not. There will never be an artist such as alejandro sanz. Check out all his talented cd's and background history @ www.alejandrosanz.com. you will not be disapointed!!!!!!!

- Alejandro, MAS better than ever
And if you don't understand Spanish and don't have a friend who can translate for you, you're missing an entire half of this master composer. Although sometimes one wonders if he's trying to imitate someone else, or other unfamiliar sounds, he comes across as honest because he's unashamed about his Spanish sound and his voice, present in each song. Oh, and I'm sick of people saying he can't sing! His voice has character, you either like it or not, if you hate his voice go buy LuisMi concert tickets and CDs...Luisito and others (Ricky Iglesias) wish some of Alex's songs were for sale. Honey, this ain't on eBay ("mi voz no te la vendo", --#1) What it doesn't lack, though, is passion and genius. His phrasing, rhymes, arrangements and timing, are sometimes upbeat or mellow, jazzy or rock, contemporary and universal in sound, yet have an international and eclectic feel, incorporating such diversities of Latin music as flamenco and salsa. As in previous works, he assembles a truly talented group of musicians and others.

And to all those who keep writing that he can't rap, well, duh, of course not, he didn't grow up in urban america. That's why he collaborates with other to interpret his work. But he is not shabby at all when it comes to conjuring some rap lyrics (listen to #4). And yeah, as you know, he writes everything, music, and lyrics, including the rap in "Try to save your Song"? (he even sounds "rappy" on some other Spanish songs anyway). In this CD for the first time, he can get away with these experimentations, and the results are delightful to hear. You only have to listen to "Tiene que ser pecado", #9 on his previous "El alma al aire" CD, to know that he's progressed!

Go buy this CD, get it in cyberspace if you must, but whatever you do, don't steal music!

In "No es lo mismo"" Alex's extremes are showcased like never before, and this covers everything from uplifting rhythms to cathartic heartbreaking sounds. "He sido tan feliz contigo", #3 is one of the most gut wrenching ones he's done in a while. Yet #6 is my favorite, probably, because of its danceability. Very "Corazón partío". I was listening to it in the car the other day, and people out in the streets were dancing to it, and I live in freaking Boston!

Oh, if you think Alejandro hasn't evolved, compare the sound of #8, "12 POR 8", to #5 in MAS ("La margarita dijo no"). Uhm, unless I'm mistaken, I think he's finally gotten down the youth-choir-as-background-vocals concept.

And may you, Maestro Sanz, continue evolving and your creativity continue to pour down my speakers for many many many more CDs to come.

- Change is always bueno...

It's a pretty decent disc.. I like it quite a bit and I've been "following" Alejandro's music for about 6 years now.. not long considering how long he's actually been doing it. It's a nice change, even if it is only a little.
