Ok so this may not be the best Aerosmith album, but it's still pretty darn good. I can't say that I have any complaints with any of the songs on this CD. It is like Aerosmith put all their sounds from the past 20 years and put them in a blender, and came up with this nice mix. My personal favorite song is "Eat the Rich", a hilarious song about what is wrong with rich people. I also like "Livin on the Edge", "Walk on Down", "Shut up and Dance", "Cryin", "Gotta Love it" , and "Amazing". "Amazing", probably the biggest hit off of this album, is like a 90's version of the ballad "Dream On". Also, "Cryin" and "Crazy" sound a lot alike, but "Crazy" is slower. This was the first Aerosmith album I got, thanks mostly to MTV, and I think it's still great and it's great to listen to in the car. If you are an Aerosmith fan, buy this album.

Have always been an Aerosmith fan,even on their lp's that didn't do all that well.I can honestly say that 'Get A Grip' is a darn good later day effort by them Boston bad boys.I've heard a few mention how this CD just MAY be the band's best record since their 'Rocks' lp.Now,that's saying something.'Get A Grip' is in my opinion anyway,a modern hard rock classic.Rips from beginning to end.Killer tracks include "Eat The Rich","Shut Up And Dance","Fever","Line-Up","Livin' On The Edge"(remember the video?),"Cryin'" and "Walk On Down"(which features guitarist Joe Perry on vocals).Sweet!No doubt.A must have for all fans.Highly recommended.

I've been a fan of Aerosmith for about four years now, and this is the fourth album by them that I've heard. Amazing or not, I like them all. The band is a legend already, and I believe that they'll be remembered as one of the greatest bands. The have their own unique sound, which you either like or not. I like it.
The album starts with Intro, a nice little piece of music. From thet we can smoothly move to Eat the Rich. The lyrics are fun, and this is a true Aerosmith rock song. After that comes the title song, Get A Grip. I have to warn you; someone burps loud at the very beginning of the song! Grip is another rock song, and Tyler's voice raises and raises in the "I get so excited" -part so that you'd think he'd explode any time. Fever comes after that; at first I didn't like the song, but then I got excited about it. Sounds to me a bit like Rolling Stones, and I also love Tyler's harmonica. Livin' On the Edge is probably the most famous song from this album, but it just doesn't chill me that much. Flesh is a bit like Fever, and once again we can hear the Demon Of Screaming at his best. This is a very energetic song. Walk On Down is Joe Perry saying "Hey I have a good song too, let's put it on the album!" I'm glad they listened to Joe as Walk On Down is easy-going but full of rock. Shut Up And Dance is one of my favorites, a rock song that makes you want to dance as they tell you to. And when you are tired after hard dancing, you can relax by listening to Cryin'. I like the song, but the live version on Little South Of Sanity is much better, it's a gem while this version sounds like a bad recording of a song that could have been better. The next song, Gotta Love It is my favourite. It rocks, has depth and power. It reminds me of Michael Jackson's Give In To Me (Dangerous, 1991), and if you like Give In... because of the song, not just because of Michael Jackson, you gotta love this song too (or other way round; if you like this you'll like Give In To Me). Crazy follows this song, another ballad which is pretty good. I'm just sad that they picked the ballads for singles, why not Flesh for example. But Aerosmith makes great ballads, so... you'll probably go crazy for this song. Line Up features Lenny Kravitz, but it's not the most interesting song in this album. Can't Stop Messin' became one of my favorites; at first I thought the beginning was too sudden, but now I can't get enough of it. Amazing, amazingly another famous slow ballad... good but don't listen to it too often so you won't get bored. Boogie Man comes silently from nowhere, stops by to float in your mind and after it has faded away it'll still float in your brain. Spooky.
I don't want to say anything stupid like "buy this cd" or "this is the best" or "vote for my review" but I don't actually know what to say. Boogie Man is still filling my mind.

Actually, 2 and-a-half stars...

"Get A Grip" was Aerosmith's follow-up to their multi-platinum "Pump," and the band's first album of the 90's. Coming up with a worthy successor to a stellar collection like "Pump" would prove difficult for any band, even veterans like Aerosmith. There were pre-release rumors that Geffen was unhappy with early versions of "Get A Grip." True or not, the final version of the album is neither a disaster nor a masterpiece. An assortment of outside talent was recruited to contribute to the album. Yet despite (or perhaps, because of) the input of co-writers like Lenny Kravitz, Jim Vallance, Desmond Child, Tommy Shaw, and Jack Blades, "Get A Grip" never rises much above mid-line Aerosmith.

At 13 songs and over an hour long, there's more filler than killer on "Get A Grip." The filler isn't awful - but there's a sense of "been there, done that" pervading much of the record. With over three years between "Pump" and "Get A Grip," things could have sounded a bit fresher.

In retrospect, the album served as a bellwether for Aerosmith's future musical direction. The Boston Bad Boys served up a fairly balanced mix of hard-rock boogie-woogie and power-ballad nirvana. Songs like "Fever," "Livin' On The Edge" and the furious "Eat The Rich" demonstrated that Aerosmith could still rock in a hard place. But - as was the case for many rockers at the time - the CD's ballads are what made the greatest impact on the charts.

The best of the ballads, the mid-tempo "Cryin,'" is animated by a driving horn section. By comparison, "Amazing" and "Crazy" are better seen (in their accompanying videos - featuring Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler) than heard.

All in all, there's enough on "Get A Grip" to keep fans of "Pump" or "Permanent Vacation" happy. Likewise, if you believe that the last great thing Aerosmith did was "Toys In The Attic," "Get A Grip" will only reinforce your opinion.

1993, the music world as we knew was changed forever by a musical revolution that invaded from Seattle. Grunge was all over the place and the face of music was different than what AEROSMITH was used to. GET A GRIP was released at this point in time and its resulting success proved that no matter what the musical climate maybe, AEROSMITH will still continue to rock. While not as raw as their earlier efforts, this album is still full of balls to the walls rockin' songs that should be played loud. EAT THE RICH, GET A GRIP, FEVER, LIVIN ON THE EDGE are just rockin songs that show the band still has the drive and energy to just rock. CRYIN, AMAZING, and CRAZY slow the tempo down abit but the album does not lose its momentum. This album has went on to sell like 12 million copies or something like that and I dont think many people out of that number are disappointed. This is a solid slab of rock and I think any music fan will enjoy this.
