Review - Amazon.com :
While it doesn't quite hang together as well as does the follow-up Pump, Permanent Vacation marked Aerosmith's rebirth as a viable rock band. On the strength of singles "Rag Doll," "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," and "Angel" (a worthy entry from the band that basically invented the power ballad), Aerosmith came roaring back into the charts with a vengeance, proving that rock & rollers really can claw their way to the top more than once. Their roots show in a couple of bluesy tracks ("St. John" and "Hangman Jury"), while other songs (notably "Magic Touch" and "Simoriah") are quintessential 1980s rockers. Overall the singles on Permanent Vacation are stronger than the album as a whole, but it was this album that announced that Aerosmith were back. --Genevieve Williams

- Oh how the mighty have fallen...
This disc marks the point where Aerosmith made their career re-defining comeback. It also marks the point where they descended into MTV/Hollywood inspired mediocrity. Aerosmith is often compared to the Rolling Stones, and just like Mick and Keith and company, Aerosmith lost the hard edge. New Aerosmith fans often say this is their best, and the band has pandered to them in that everything they have released since is basically a rehash of this disc. Power ballads, Alicia Silverstone (where is she now?), jamming with Britney Spears? What happened to the 70's glory days when Aerosmith rivaled Led Zeppelin? One exception on this record: "Hangman's Jury" sounds like it could have been on "Rocks."

- Aerosmith makes a comeback with a blast
Aerosmith was a great 70's band with albums like Toys In The Attic and hits like "Dream On" and "Walk This Way." They made their huge comeback in 1987 with Permanent Vacation. The album is loaded with the hits "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)," "Rag Doll," and "Angel." Those are not the only good songs on Permanent Vacation though. The title track, "Simoriah," "Girl Keeps Coming Apart" and the rest of the songs are almost as good. In my opinon, Aerosmith couldn't have made a comeback in the 80's with a much better album.

If you're an Aerosmith fan or if you like hard rock, I recommend getting Permanent Vacation. It might stay permanently as one of your favorites.

- One of the greatest releases of all time...
Aerosmith pulled out of their drug habits and inter-band squabbles and recorded one of the greatest rock albums ever released. With great hits like Dude (Looks Like a Lady), Rag Doll, and Angel, Aerosmith vaulted back into the rock limelight. Although Done With Mirrors was released prior to Permanent Vacation, this was the real record that started their climb back into stardom. Notably, this was also the first drug- and alcohol-free Aerosmith album ever. Angle proves that Aerosmith is not grounded solely in the rockers that they are known for, and is in my personal opinion the greatest love song of all time. But for those who are not ones for the slower tunes, there are still plenty of straight-up rocking tunes. There are also some more bluesy ones, such as Hangman Jury and St. John. Aerosmith's diverse style ability is shown on this album, possibly more so than on any other. Standout tracks: Heart's Done Time (check out the killer whale sounds), Magic Touch, Rag Doll, Dude (Looks Like a Lady), and Angel. All said, Permanent Vacation is undeniably the album that launched Aerosmith back into stardom, and is a solid rock album that is stylistically diverse and skillful. A must have for any Aerosmith fan, or just someone who wants a great rock offering in their CD collection.

- Aerosmith turns into Bon Jovi
I was a big Aero fan in the 70s but this was the last Aerosmith album I bought. The ballad "Angel" is like any other 80s hair band power ballad...pure sap. Some of the others tunes aren't bad but they certainly can't compete with their mid seventies hey day. I agree with the reveiwer who said the music is overproduced. The most interestong track is the Zeppelin styled "The Movie".

- Their Comeback Album
PERMANENT VACATION is the album that helped AEROSMITH establish once again their rightful place on top of the American rock scene. RAG DOLL, DUDE(LOOKS LIKE A LADY), ANGEL are the 3 MTV favorites from this album that pushed them to the top once again. Well the album isnt as raw and dirty as TOYS or ROCKS, this still has some killer rock songs that show the band still rockin like they did in the 70's. Besides the 3 songs mentioned above, the listener will enjoy listening to MAGIC TOUCH, HEARTS DONE TIME, SIMORIAH, GIRL KEEPS COMING APART. ...
