A1 Biography

a1 was a British boyband whose first single, "Be the First to Believe", was released in 1999. The band consisted of Mark Read, Paul Marazzi, Ben Adams and Christian Ingebrigtsen from Norway.

The group's publicity mainly focused on the fact that they wrote the majority of their own songs and three out of the four band members also played their own instruments.

In 2000, they achieved their two number one singles in the UK; a cover of a-ha’s 1985 single “Take on Me” and “Same Old Brand New You”.

After they released their third album "Make It Good", Paul Marrazzi left the band for personal reasons and the group subsequently split. They released a “best of” album in 2004 which featured their singles and two unreleased studio recordings.

In April 2005 Ben Adams released his solo single “Sorry” which reached number 18 in the UK singles chart. On 2nd January 2009, Ben entered the Celebrity Big Brother house for the UK programme on Channel 4, coming an eventual fourth behind Verne Troyer, Coolio, Terry Christian and Ulrika Jonnson.

In August 2009, it was announced that a1 had reunited (without Paul) for a series of reunion shows in Norway to celebrate their ten-year anniversary.
