- Let your mind go into the Roland 808 state....I have followed 808 State for 9 years, ever since I discovered the Utd 90 disc. To this day, I am still impressed with 808's composition. They have succeeded in producing a unique sound in each and every hit they release which just shows off how incredibly talented they are. To 808 State I will forever be grateful for opening my mind to Drum & Bass (you won't find me without a D&B CD or two today!) and technotronicfunkadelicjunglebeattrancehiphipdancerockthehousedown music which has changed my world! To the members of 808, THANK YOU, and I hope to see you in California again! (Big Top, 1997 Oakland, California) Peace, -Sean

- Two outstanding, unmissable mixesJoyrider (Natural Mix) is simply the most joyous, beautiful dance(-ish) mix I have heard in as long as I can remember. Along with the long version of the Sasha & BT mix of Seal's I'm Alive and the Rollo & Sister Bliss mix of Simply Red's Fairground this is my favourite mix of all time. Lopez (A Direct Neural Mix) is well named. A fantastic fantastic fantastic cooking, pumping beat. Superb. All the other tracks are reasonably good apart from the irritating Paradan (A Paranoid mix) - also well named - and Pump (A Mesmer Mix) which you have to be in the right mood for. If anyone needed proof that 808 State are the stand-out leaders in their field this is it. For the two cited tracks buy this CV. You will not be disappointed, not even with the few ordinary ones.

- What? An inventive remix album? How is this?I give this four stars only because, in my opinion, it is not quite on par with previous 808 material. It still knocks the socks off a lot of the other electro-drudge out there, though, and unlike most dance remixes of dance tracks, it's not merely the same recycled pieces with a new beat or tempo. (By the way, for those of you who don't already know, this album is mostly composed of remixes of tracks from their 1996 album Don Solaris.) This album has its low points, sure. The Direct Neural mix of Lopez by the Propellerheads sounds, well, like every other Propellerheads song. Dillinja's mix of Azura is also relatively standard fare, but very well done. And Pump would be a great song as an instrumental; as it is, the extremely mediocre hip-hop effort by Nicky Lockett are rather irritating. But heck with that. Joyrider, as espoused by the previous reviewer before me, is a classic, and very different from the industrial drum-and-bass version on Don Solaris. Ditto Balboa. Brian Eno's mix of Lopez is stunning, and I am a huge fan of the fast-paced, peppy Spanish Marching. No, this isn't Don Solaris. But that's sort of the point. It's quintessential 808 State to change gears completely between releases. So I guess you'll just have to buy them both.
